Why shouldn't the amount of talent make a difference, objectively? No preconceived ideas need be involved, it seems to me.

Perhaps, though some addictions seem to be down to chemistry rather than to anything as elevated as love or acceptance. Besides, most addicts don't crave publicity and attention in the form of magazine and tv coverage in the way that Kerry seems to.

I don't agree. It doesn't have to be anything that would normally be considered talent, though I suppose almost anything could be called "talent".

I think that what explains a lot of dislike for celebs is that people have a sense of how much fame / success / coverage / screen time / etc someone deserves, based on their talent and accomplishments. And then ones getting more than that tend to be disliked.

Before, it was "I think you have to be down in the mire before you can aspire for the heights"; now it's about appreciating the difference.
