What do I need to transfer videos to DVD ?
Hi peeps !
Hope this is the right sub-forum for this question ! Anyway, I am wanting to transfer my videos to DVD and I'm mightly confused as to what I need and the advice I get in the shops is about as useful as a chocolate spoon so I'm throwing myself on your mercy ! I have an 80gb computer with a DVD/RW and a video (obviously) plus Sonic RecordNow! which came with the computer looks to be capable of doing things with video etc. Now where I'm stuck is, what do I need to acomplish this ? I'm asked if I have a video card and frankly I'm not sure, but seeing as this is a brand new computer and I have software pre-installed that is capable of doing so I'm guessing I do but how can I tell ? My computer has a socket called 'video connector' which looks like a minature scart socket, but my video does not have a corresponding socket, so what do I need to contect the two ? Basically, any advice gratefully recevied on what I need and how best to go about this. Thanks !

Most standard video cards won't have any video input - you would have to upgrade your card to one that offers this....and it won't be cheap. The "mini scart" you describe is probably a video output.
Yeti's solution looks like a good option! |

Thanks guys ! So really what I need is this usb/ video connecting piece of hardware ? It's just that I already have Sonic RecordNow! which looks to do exactly what Pinacle does so I'm wondering if it will work out cheaper just to buy the 'thingamy' on it's own.

That software is quite possibly there so that you can simply connect a DV camera to the computer by firewire to create DVDs.
For an analogue source, you may well need the hardware which has been recommended to you. |

First question..can you watch TV via your new PC?? If you can, then it's got a TV Tuner card in it..all TV tuner cards have (at least) a composite video input as well, some also have s-video inputs.
If it has this, then you've got the hardware to capture onto your PC... The best-and easiest-way of getting video onto DVD is by a standalone DVD recorder...They are dropping like a stone in price-not much over £100 now, and we'll probably crash through that price barrier before the year is out. Simple, quick, and you bypass all the problems you'd have of capturing to your hard drive. |
