CS: Introduce Owen's Estranged Wife
boogie woogie

I'm loving Owen's character on the Street right now. His scenes with poor Eileen were dynamite last night and reminded me of the glory days of the excellent Charlie Stubbs. Ian Purleston Davies is a terrific actor and plays the edgy and menacing Owen with aplomb. Alongside Chris Gray, he has been one of the best additions to the Street in the past year.

I'd love to see his ex-wife to arrive on the scene and cause a lot of trouble for the unscrupulous builder. It would be interesting to examine their relationship and the tensions surrounding their failed marriage. It would also be great to see Katy and Izzy's reaction to their mum's reappearance on the Street. Moya Brady, who played Cassie Western in an episode of Shameless and also appeared regularly on The Bill would be ideal for the part.

What does everyone think?

I assumed she'd died at some point, and that's why Owen is so protective of his daughters

Owen is far more convincing than rubbish old Chris Gray. I don't like villain characters when, for they to seem convinced, the writing for everybody else around them (such as Maria in Chris' case) has to become really stupid. Owen could fool or manipulate anybody without being sussed. Chris' bad boy act smacks of incompetence and obviousness.

I too am enjoying the character of Owen and his recent development. From the way he was introduced and his general manner (apart from being a bit quick-tempered at times) I never thought he would appear to be as menacing as he was in the Rovers Return scene with Eileen and then back at her place.

Mistakenly I was even thinking about Owen becoming a new strand in the Eileen romance brigade. But after he's now discovered she's stolen £10,000 from his business I'm pretty sure once he's decided what he wants to do it certainly won't be wining and dining her.

I'm not sure what Owen will have up his sleeve, but I'm pretty sure it won't be pretty whatever the outcome to this storyline will be.

Indeed, Owen is horrible and horribly believable. Chris is a no-mark and not particularly well cast to my mind. I was disappointed that Eileen didn't stand up to him more though as she's usually such a feisty character.

Owen has Eileen completely over a barrel with this one though, as Eileen knows that she's the one in the worng, no matter how desperate she was. I like both Chris and Owen for different reasons and Will Thorp, who plays Chris, is a terrific actor.

No she's still alive, she came up one day in a conversation between Ches and Katy when she mentioned that her mum left when she couldn't cope with Izzy's disability.

Yes, would like to see that.

Wouldn't want them to go "rough" - that would be like the dreadful fat Kebab man's wife Theresa.

They should get a harridan though - perhaps someone who Owen fears to see the other side of him.

While we're on this - why has Tina's mother never shown up?

Tina's mother Anna showed up for 3 eps back in 2008, can't exactly remember the details of why she appeared but it was very brief.

Bump! Owen's ex wife still hasn't made an appearance on the cobbles. After all the bankruptcy business is over and done with, is there still an opportunity to introduce the character, or has that ship sailed? Given that the character also has a grandchild on the Street surely an appearance (despite this late stage) would make sense?

Now Katy is leaving I don't see the point in introducing Owens ex-wife. What would it achieve? Cause of bit of misery for Owen and Anna we've had more than enough of that recently. On top of that it would just result in more screen time for Izzy and nobody wants that.

From Blackburn's interview it sounds like he's going to introduce the character. It also sounds like she'll be involved in Katy's exit.
