All Humax would have to do is have an option to switch, then of course you could have it my way and then see any resumed series if you want.

As it is, I delete everything anyway so I miss stuff because I dont want the schedule cluttered up because its a schedule, a list of things coming up.

Pardon what the devil does this mean . If the next episode is not in the epg, because it's not within the next 8 days of the epg what do you suggest should happen

Delete it instantly, wait 1 day and then delete, wait 1 week and delete it, wait 2 weeks etc. Oh yes wait for what every other freesat+ (and freeview+ box does), wait untii it certain the series has finished, or the same to hide them.

Hide them so that over time you will finish up with dozens of expired series recordings that you have no idea of.

I have no problem at all with this all you have to do it look at the programme info for the last recorded edition, if it's finished just delete otherwise ignore it, it won't do any harm

Its simple, delete it off the schedule but keep it in the memory in case it comes back within 13 weeks, if it doesnt, they are deleted.

So what? It means you have to scroll through to see whats coming up. I use to plan viewing and thats no good with loads of expired series.

No reason why it wouldn't work but I can't really see the point and it would mean you couldn't be sure what was there if there had been a long (< 13 weeks) gap and would have to manually check to make sure it had 'caught' when the series restarted,

Yes, it would be better if the moved entries with no programme currently available to the end.

Yes, the remote range+angle is usable but bad compared to virtually everything else out there.

The very first zapper I had (circa 1982 - Sony TV) was perfect.

You didn't really have to bother pointing it. Provided it wasn't pointing at something soft less than a foot away it worked. First time, every time.

Things have gone downhill from there.

It's ridiculous that the basic video technology has advanced to an enormous extent but we still have to put up with remotes that have to be pointed accurately to within one second of the arc and where the most used buttons fail long before the controlled equipment.

They don't have to be like this. I just pointed my Topfield 5810 remote directly at the sofa from about 2 inches away, pointing more or less 180 degrees away from the stb, and it still worked!

That would do too, as long as its out of the way.


I record everything I want to watch, then Ill decide on the evenings viewing, taking off the ad time and working out what time I need to start watching to watch everything in one go.

And if you shook your keys it would change channel, those were the days!

That's because tuner 1 is not available for a new guide so you get the buffered epg (same as schedule/red)

I am a new Humax user. I like the sound of the FTP/media server on the box. Have you got more details? I haven't come across that before?

I like the sound of that especially if I can get the iPlayer side working as well? Could I then watch iPlayer content remotely via the Humax?

The guy behind the " Update " are working on a brand new update that will install and setup everything automatically - doing it manually is a touch more complicated if your not sure how to use telnet etc.

I bought a Humax-HDR for the second living room at Christmas (along with a 32" HD TV to replace the 12" CRT that had just about died).

I am so impressed with it that we've not used the Sky+ since then, and yesterday did the obvious thing and cancelled the Sky subscription. What a waste of money that's been since Christmas as we havent even had it turned on!

I have to say that there is genuinely not one thing that we've missed about Sky, and indeed the Humax is massively more useful and detailed.

The genuine plus points for us are that it's free, HD, has integrated iPlayer, has the very useful folders, an EPG search function that actually brings up the programs and the ability to record two and watch a third.

The question now is whether to buy a second box for the first living room or to stream the signal (in HD?).

Just asked Sky for the multiroom option, got to connect to phone line for this....just ordered freesat plus to be installed in me bedroom, if it is ok sky can go...only been a customer for about 17 years you think they would try a little harder...

Good to see people realising just how much is available free nowadays and how much further it goes with a PVR.

You have to connect both boxes to a phone line, don't you?

You'd think they would have managed to come up with a scheme were you could just connect the boxes to each other for some sort of security handshake.

What I did for my multiroom when I had skys year ago. I went to argos and got a phone socket pack (If that's what it was called). It allowed me to run a telephone line to another room and it came with a box to plug the phone into. That way I could have both boxes connected. Not that it really matters now freesat is the way to go.

I've just bought a Foxsat-HDR after being used to Sky HD. I'm sure it just takes a bit of time and effort to get used to it. Maybe, for non-technical types like me, there should be a 'Foxsat Lite' option with just one simple, unambiguous way of carrying out each of the basic functions. All this discussion about the different ways of doing things does seem bit daunting at first

In reality, both systems work extremely well.

They both have their little niggles and oddities but, as you say, once you get used to it you'll be fine.

I agree they should have a 'quick start' sheet as all the basic functions are very easy once you've found them.
