problem with Onkyo 2.1 surround sound
hi,
I am having problems with my Onkyo HTX-22HDX surround sound system.I only have my blu-ray player connected to it as I wanted to improve the sound when watching movies. Problem is I am losing the sound momentarily, about a second,if I turn the surround sound off,the disc plays normally.I have the HDMI out, from the Onkyo, connected to the HDMI input, marked ARC on my tv. Any ideas or suggestions really appreciated. Thanks |

Should have mentioned that this happens several times during the course of watching a film.

Wonder if there is some weirdness going on with the ARC from the telly? Easy enough to check by plugging the HDMI from the Onkyo into a different input on the TV. I assume though that the Blu-Ray is plugged into the Onkyo and not the TV?

Just wondering if the sound was being fed up to the TV then coming back down via the ARC channel and something was causing the Onkyo to throw a wobbly as a result.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you can tell the Onkyo to just feed video to the TV when using one of the HDMI inputs on it. So if it is the ARC then that might sort it and let you use the ARC to get sound from the TV's tuner back to the surround sound when you are watching the telly. |

I don't really have the time to keep checking different dvd/blu-ray discs to see what effect different settings have, rather wait till we actually watch a movie and see if it happens again.
One thing that I have done is to update the software on the blu-ray player as the version on it was pre 11/2010,so I now have the latest version, don't know if it will make any difference but anything is worth a try. |

After doing the update have watched 2 films and both have been ok.
I am not much of a techi,so I don't understand what has made the difference, but now I have updated the software everything is running fine.

All this bleedin' software update rubbish, whatever happened to poking about with a screwdriver and a multimeter?
![]() These days I probably use a PC to fix broken stuff more than I do a soldering iron! Or is that just a sign of getting old?
