Amazingly, it will probably be called iPhone 5...

Apple usually keep release dates close to their chests but sometime in the summer has been rumoured

Unless they do something like they did with the 3 --> 3GS (name wise)

But it is likely to be June going by previous patterns. Each year since 2007 there has been a release in June, with one in July.

I might bring my head to a thread one-day.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but I don't think a new iPhone will be announced this year. I don't particularly have any reasons for thinking this, other than that the current iPhone is quite adequate enough at the moment

Don't see any reason to suggest there wont he a new one. Apple have always publically maintained each iteration of iPhone hardware will have a 12month life.

Never been to keen on getting an iphone. If I was to get a new phone and im at the monent not badly needing a new phone. I would look at a smartphone. Maybe a Sony. As my last 3 phones have been Sony and I have been 98% happy with them.
Also why is it that some smartphones and the iphone dont come with FM radio.
I have only had my Sony Ericsson Elm about 7 months and im happy with it.
I also sometimes wait untill my 02 rewards are near or over £50 before I think about getting a new mobile. So I can get a new mobile for near nothing and so far my 02 rewards are just over £10.

There is one way of knowing if there is going to be a new iphone out this year and thats to look out for the prototype left "by accident" in your local Wetherspoons pub by a bungling Apple employee lol

Granted but as apple have always said its a 12 month cycle you can be fairly sure there will be a new one

There will be a new iPhone out this year, but most likely it'll be a minor spec bump similar to 3G to 3GS. I'd imagine a move to a 1.2GHz processor, more efficient battery, possibly a move to 1GB ram and a camera bump. Not a lot more they can meddle with.

Next year is when they'll introduce a dual-core processor and 1080p video, when it's standard in every other smartphone so all the fans can say "it might be standard but Apple are the first to do it properly". Dual core chips are too expensive at the moment for Apple to maintain their insane margins, thus I seriously doubt the move will be this year.

If there is a a new iphone released this year I wish Mr Jobbs would do the sensible thing and include removable micro memory cards so your not stuck with insufficient memory or having to erase data to make room for more, and also would he please include flash!

That wasn't what he asked.

OP: Yes, there will be a new iPhone this year, likely to be announced at the Apple WWDC in late June early July.

1080p will not happen, most of Apple's content is 720p.

As for hardware changes, probably not that much - faster internals, perhaps a camera change. The most changes will come with iOS5 (traditionally announced at the same time as the phone).

It will either be called the iPhone 4GS or the iPhone 5.

There's a leaked video on YouTube that shows parts of the iPhone 5 in production. Interestingly, this was removed at the request of Apple Inc, but reposted.

It shows parts of a device identical to the iPhone 4 but with more antenna slits (the black bands) in different places. The charging unit is also different, along with much of the inside layout.

Rumours from the same people suggest significant improvement on performance as opposed to new features. The device is also supposed to have an 8mpx camera.

Personal video recordings at 1080p are an attraction so it is highly possible.

The video you refer to is the CDMA iPhone (Verizon in the states).
