whatever it is, it will claim to have invented something new, like apps or video calling or some other brand new innovation that Nokia and other companies have been doing for many years already. lol @ the sheep.

The iPhone 5 is rumoured to have an Apple "A5" system-on-a-chip, containing a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and a PowerVR SGX543 GPU.

The current "A4" in the iPhone 4 & iPad 1 uses an ARM Cortex-A8 and a PowerVR SGX535.

Barring the apocalypse, it will be released in June for sure. Apple is nothing if not predictable.

The A5 processor is launching in the iPad too this spring, and then it'll be in the iPhone 5 in Summer, and the new iPod Touch and Apple TV in the autumn.

Other than that I'm guessing it probably won't be a massive update on the hardware side (though who knows…). Probably more concentrating on a big new version of iOS.

We are all still guessing.

The A4 made by Samsung for Apple was essentially a cut down Galaxy S Hummingbird chipset.
Is the A5 this time a full Samsung Orion?

Better than Tegra 2 by the sounds of it.
Tegra 3 will be out soon too.

Not really. They are both based on the same chipset and based around a Cortex-A8 CPU core. Apple's A4, of course, was designed to concentrate on power management and battery life, which never seems to be a Samsung priority. Neither is 'better' than the other, just different.

Though of course, the iOS devices actually have high quality games and the like which make use of the power of the chip, unlike some of their competitors...

I imagine the A5 will again focus on power management and battery life (though with obvious boosts in terms of CPU and GPU).

Next year is when they'll introduce a dual-core processor and 1080p video, when it's standard in every other smartphone so all the fans can say "it might be standard but Apple are the first to do it properly". Dual core chips are too expensive at the moment for Apple to maintain their insane margins, thus I seriously doubt the move will be this year.”

I also reckon they'll re design it without the antenna on the outside like the 4. There is no way they'll want to go through the publicity again. Although the it hasn't affected sales at all. I love mine!

They might tweek it, but it was always a bit of a non-story in the first place, and it doesn't seem to have affected sales one bit, much to some people's disappointment.

Of course, who knows what Jony Ive is cooking up…

It certainly wasn't a non story in the eyes of some people on here. They proceeded to make a big deal of it for months in spite of never having touched the phone themselves or that in order to reproduce the issue you have to hold the phone in a silly way no sane person would

Of course the same people were also unable to answer a basic question about the consumer reports data they liked banging on about

It was probably timing in that the Galaxy S came slightly later than the iPhone 4..
The Galaxy S uses the SGX540 whereas the iPhone used the SGX535.
The Samsung Orion is supposedly using the new ARM Mali 400 GPU which Samsung claim 500% faster useing multi core to get close to the current power house more mid size Tegra 2.

It would be a fundamental change for Apple to drop SGX.
