You could do it a simpler way, if you click on the icon at the top of the box (4th in from the right) & paste in between the brackets the part of the post you wanted to quote.

Does that make sense to you?
Not wholly! I click on the icon and it posts two bracketed QUOTE words, the first one without the oblique and the second one with it. Now I have to copy and paste the bit of text I want to quote. The question is where I paste it -in the first set of brackets or the second. Let's see...QUOTE].

For RED
say what you want to say[/hihlight]
But make sure you spell highlight properly both times and remember the / in the 2nd highlight.
For BLUE
Same as above but put in the brackets.

If you quote my post you will see how I've done it

RED...

Let me try again.

Okay, I pasted it into the first set of brackets - after the word QUOTE. Let's see what it has turned out like.

EDIT: Well, that didn't work. Drat!

EDIT: I've edited and changed it twice now, removing the square brackets and QUOTE word and it hasn't worked whichever way I've tried it.

No matter what you do you always have to have the format
text[/quote <---------- I haven't put the final bracket at the end of the last quote or you won't see what I mean.

Does that make it clearer for you?

Ah... You should have said!

Here we go.
All you do is put your text in between both sets of brackets.
It should work this time.

So I would assume that posters who normally split a post into multiple quotes use that icon. Once you know how, it's far easier than typing QUOTE and brackets and obliques for each bit you want to quote.

Not everyone I don't suppose, some people don't know what those icons are for & are too 'scared' to experiment.

However they're there for a reason (to make life easier for you) & they work.

Sorry

Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah.

Cheers! I wasn't having a go at you by saying that.

Fair point that people may not know. I know the Spoiler one and the spelling checker one (the ABC over a tick sign) in the upper right corner of the message box.

I hope the forum help guidance will cover that handy icon for quoting text.

Heehee, I wasn't offended in the least. I'm far more thick skinned than that.

Just pleased you've managed to work it out. I always think it's easier to grasp something when you're physically shown. Or maybe that's just me.

Hahaha, Digital Spy, I get it now. We're quite good at mysteries on here - I'm sure we got to the bottom of what exactly happened to some holidaymakers in a spanish apartment who lost a child.

We certainly haven't got to the bottom of what exactly happened to some holidaymakers in a Portuguese apartment who lost a child, though.

I couldn't log in because my laptop had stored my password for the last 4 years and I couldn't remember it and I was sure the email I had used to register for a reminder was one belonging to my old ISP and I couldn't use it anymore a quick email to DS support and problem solved - was an email I still used albeit rarely - panic over

Must say I was highly impressed with DS Suppport's super fast response - well done guys - gold star coming your way
