It's turned out that Frankie had a son when she was 16, but she thought he had died at birth as this is what she had been told. Turned out he hadn't died at all, it was something her parents had told her and they'd had the baby adopted instead. Esther revealed to Frankie that he died a short while ago (from cancer I think it was implied) and when she was going through his things she found a collection of letters naming Frankie and also a bear which Frankie had bought for her son before he was born and had wrapped in his blanket when he was born.

I think this is a stupid storyline. Frankie has been in HO for ages and theres never been any reference to losing a baby. After being around the village during so many deaths, I would have expected to have come up at some point. Maybe even with steph dying a simple 'losing another child' comment. Ridiculous.

Fully agree with this. Once again PM and the writing team are creating their own history and changing characters.
Utter ridiculous. |

I hope you're not suggesting that the writers just made it up to give Frankie a storyline.

Why do you watch and comment on the show daily if you hate it? I don't see the point, only person who would do that is someone with absoloutly no life

They have every right to be critical of a programme they watch.

Why shouldn't they make her have another child?
It's like every soap opera, family members turn up even though they've never been referenced to before. I'm glad Frankie's actually got a storyline.

A bit of a stupid storyline, especially given Frankie's history on the show and her relationship with Jack, but ultimately anything that gives the oldies more screen time is fine with me.
I do disagree that the older characters are being backburned, though. I think during PM's tenure, we've seen quite a lot more of the older characters than we are used to. |

Totally agree! It's not believable or true to her character, way over the top and completely far-fetched IMO. It appears to be a pathetic attempt to replace Steph who's own character was robbed of a fitting end and resulted in a complete cop out by the writers and PM the destroyer. I'm aware Carley Stenson wished to leave but even still, after ten years and a such a promising exit they shoud have done the story, and the actress justice. Frankie is a great character and actress, totally underused as are all the older characters, they don't even get a nod in the titles and never have!
![]() I think the grand daughter looks a bit like steph, so its been a good casting!! |

I think it wouldhave been more believable to say she was was Jake's daughter but even Jake didnt know about her. You could easily have a holiday fling and not know that you have knocked someone up!

Didn't she become really broody at one point and talked about having a baby with Jack?
I might have been dreaming that, but even if I wasn't, I agree that it sounds like something that's SO out of the blue- at least if there had been some subtle references to it recently (like she knew it was coming up to an important birthday of said child) and with Steph dying... surely something should have been said just to warm up to it? |

It's not actually in the least bit unbelievable. Society was very different when Frankie was 16 and to be an unmarried mother was still considered to be shameful, there is plenty of documented evidence to support stories like this if you do some research. I think it would have been around 1972 when she was pregnant and although attitudes to sex out of marriage and birth control were changing it certainly wasn't like it is now.
Is it a good storyline? That I don't know yet, its nice to see Helen Pearson get something to do, but I wish it didnt involve Tom and I'm reserving judgement on Esther. |

I was about to ask what was actually going on with this storyline as I'm watching the omnibus at the moment - I watch Hollyoaks very infrequently these days.
A really odd storyline. Mind you, I find most of the storylines hard to follow recently, as each time I tune in, there are a whole bunch of new characters. |

Im still catching up with a few weeks worth of HO episodes, im not sure i like the sound of this storyline, its rewritten Frankies history completely, she has been in HO for years, this would have realisticly cropped up at one point for instance when Frankie miscarried hers and Jacks baby she would have mentioned loosing another child, and when Steph died aswell.
The writers should have come up with another better storyline for a classic HO character like Frankie. |
