Philips Savvy Problem

My Dad has a friend who uses a Philips Savvy on Orange. It has now started showing a message saying SIM 47 07 when its on (instead of showing Orange). It has signal but you can't call it or do anything with it.

I put the sim into a Nokia 5210 and it worked, it showed Orange and if called it rang, also has a text message on the sim saying "Update Error"

Time for a new phone for him methinks?

Also my orange sim is one of those black 3G ones with the flowers on it. His one is white on the front with black writing, 3 symbols (one being an envelope) and says "JT" in the front bottom left and has the "If found call...then the number"

The back of it is black and has a white band at the top and bottom.

I seem to remember this error means that the phones firmware has become corrupted due to the failure of what we would nowadays call flash memory.
You're correct that it isn't worth repairing, even Carphone Warehouse's sub £1 phones will offer a better phone.

Its an Orange Just Talk sim card. The sim may have compatibility issues with the much newer Nokia. The sim update is probably for GPRS. Try switching the Nokia on and off again. Ask Orange for a new sim card if you want to keep the phone number.

Its probably between 10 and 12 years old, so its done well especially as its a Philips

i used to have this phone in 2000! It had a higher or lower game where all you had to do was predict if the next number displayed would be higher or lower! lol! Good times!

God this was my first phone this. Think i've got it tucked away in a draw somewhere and it still works.

I remember this phone, it was my second phone coloured blue. It had a really catchy ringtone which I'm humming away to myself as we speak lol
