Help!! problem with dogs paw

I walked my mums dog this morning and whilst he was on a patch of grass he somhow hurt himself and began limping he is quite a big dog so I couldn't carry him home so he had to walk on the bad paw.

We are now in doors and he can put his weight on it when he stands but limps when he tries to walk and he gets aggressive if we try to touch it .

My question is I said to mum he needs to go to the vet now but mum says leave it a while and see what happens ~ what would you guys do ?

Thank you in advance .

We are going to a pet clinic to see if we can get him some painkillers .

It's a bit confusing one minute he is walking on it quite well the next he can't put his paw down .

Lou!!

Nothing worse than animals worrying us at wkends, emergency vet costs are astronomical!!

As it was so sudden (and also because you say it keeps coming and going ie when he steps on the right spot), it does sound like something small from the grass got stuck (a thistle etc), have you looked closely between his pads?

Other than that keep in in the warm and comfy and take him to a vet if he's no better on monday x x

Hi Emz xxxxx

We decided to take him to the pet clinic the vet saw and says he has twisted his wrist and given him a pain killing injection and some tablets to take starting tommrow so not too serious but it's so hard seeing my baby in pain .

Glad you got it sorted. It's so difficult to know what to do at the weekend. We have been in that situation many times with our dogs. Always better to be over cautious though imo.

Thankyou .

I am glad we went as well , I think it is better to be safe than sorry and now we know what is wrong a couple of days rest and some painkillers should do the trick .

Our dog had panosteitis when he was a pup and quite often limps. We use Metacam, anti inflammatory, drug that helps.

It's not uncommon for big dogs to twist things and limp for a few days.

When speaking to the vet this week he suggested giving the dog Asprin, a new one on me, but will do some research, as it's an anti-inflammatory drug.

Glad your dog is on the mend.
