Smelly kitty farts!

First time poster....

My gorgeous little 7 week old kitten has a bad wind problem, she absolutely stinks!

Ive tried changing her food and she's been wormed, her little tummy seems quite bloated. She eats her food really fast so that's probably a factor.

She can just about empty the room, silent but violent!

Any ideas anyone?

How often are you feeding her? Little kittens need 4 small meals a day rather than 1 or 2 large ones.

I have a litter of 4 11 week old kittens here and they can stink a room out too! I tend to find they are less smelly on a good quality dry food with a pouch as a treat. Mine love Iams kitten.

Also how long ago was she wormed and what with? The bloated tum could point to worms. You can use stronghold from 6 weeks old and it kills worms, fleas and earmites all in one spot-on.

She gets fed about 5 times a day on natures finest wet food. It has 70% meat so was recommended by the pet shop. I'm in the process of changing her to whiskers slowly, as I thought it was maybe too rich for her.

I'm thinking about dry food too and I had looked at the iams kitten. She was taken from her mother at 4 weeks (long story) so the vet said start her on wet food first then gradually introduce dry,

She was wormed with milbemax which I got from the vet.

She's a very hungry little girl who can't get her food down quick enough!

Oh bless her, we need to see pics, you're doing all the right things though, you may find the change in food helps, if not you might just have a smelly kitten on your hands.

If she was separated from mum at such a young age, you're going to need to teach her to be a cat! Should be lots of fun! Do you have other cats she can learn from?

On top of the litter I already mentioned I have another abandoned queen here, she had a litter of 3 over 2 days, one unfortunately stillborn, one she rejected and we handreared for 4 days until she lost her fight on Thursday and the surviving kitten seems to be doing ok. It's kitten madness here!

Whiskas??? You can do better than that for your money!

for loads of info regarding both wet and dry foods.
Poor little mite was away from her mum way too early ( not a criticism, you said there was a story behind that) and missed out on some valuable feeds from the milk bar. You are very lucky that she has such a strong appetite.....ask the vet about adding a probiotic to her food to help add good bacteria to her gut. Smelly wind or poop basically points to a gut imbalance and/or poor digestion...often grain content in food can be a reason.
A balanced raw diet produces less pong than anything else, but you may not be ready for that. Make any food changes slowly and gradually over several days to avoid further upsetting her tum.

Put a large, powerful fan next to a ventilation shaft and train it to approach from the rear before releasing.

Picture of my little lucky! Don't know if the link will work!

Yes I think I might ask the vet about probiotics? If I want to feed her wet food, what's the best that's widely available in the supermarkets? I thought the one I had (natures menu) would have been good because of the high meat content. I know whiskers isn't the best!

I don't really have any advice, but she's gorgeous!

I've had a couple of very young orphaned kitties, yes they were quite stinky As they get older that should improve gradually. In the meantime while still feeding wet food as the main part o the die you could try introducing some dry food and also some cooked chicken or coley (both the latter are gentle on the gut).

I would not personally choose Whiskas - it reeks! Even the smell of opening a pouch makes me gag (I feed it occasionally as a treat as one of my girls likes it). I'd personally try Felix, it is much less noxious.

And (again personal opinion) I would definitely avoid Iams or any other supermarket brand of dried food. Iams was responsible for appalling wind for one of my girls. Have a look at premium brands like Hills, Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved (all available from petshops).

She is lovely me in love yet again. I fed my kittens on whiskas kitten food. The older ones where on tins but they are on pouches now. I know you are supposed to feed kittens up to at least 8months on kitten food. Mine took in amoungst there selfs to eat big food. We tried for about a month too keep them on kitten food and they ate theres and then went too pinch the adults left overs. Kittens pooh does smell. they always seems too go when either your having your tea or someone is here.

The worst thing about cat farts is, they're always silent, so you get no advanced warning.
