I think Gary's storyline in the army has been excellent.

I think it shows how Britain treats the members of the armed forces.

They use lads like Gary; treat them as cannon fodder then discard them.

Gary's fracas with the police was a direct result of his mental state following his horrific experiance. The army were not interested. They have thrown him on the scrap heap without giving a damn.

There is a huge number of ex-forces who end up in prison. The British public need to sit up and listen. Well done Corrie.

Never a truer word spoken i am with you on that one, they know that the way Gary reacted was purely as a direct result of PTSD caused my the atrocities they see out there fighting for their country. I have a family member in the army and when he was home on leave on bonfire night he locked himself away because the noise made him panic like crazy. The army help treat people who are physically injured but time after time they fail to recognise and treat the mental trauma. WELL DONE CORRIE AND MIKEY!!

I do think the UK public has found a new found respect for the armed forces through "Help the Heroes" etc but there is still so much to do.

We throw money at the lazy, workshy and those new arrivals who wrongly believe the UK owes them a living before they have contributed anything but fail to support those who have risked there lives for us.

Actually I think the majority of Great British Public have always appreciated the lads and lasses serving in the Forces. Sadly it is the political elite (on all sides) which take them for granted; sending them into conflicts and wars without the proper funding and equipment. And then when they return home they are virtually abandoned and treated as if they are a nuisence and a drain on the state if they have illnesses and injuries sustained whilst in action.

I think you'll find there are people that don't need Help for Heroes to appreciate the armed forces.
Gary's storyline along with his shoddy facial hair when up in front of his OIC when getting charged has been pretty weak.
Gary has refused to get help for his stress, that's not the Army's fault. Gary has done time in prison prior to joining the Army. He's lucky they even took him in and gave him a second chance in life.
I am a bit stunned that you say a lot of ex forces members are in prison, I'd wage a guess that the majority of those would've ended up in jail with or without the army.

The guy who plays Eddie Windass has tweeted that forces' website forums are livid about how scruffy Gary was during his meeting with the OIC.

Well he was, and he'd also get some pre release medicals etc.
But no one can help Gary until he asks for help, too many are too keen to get back out there. If anyone actually listened to Gary that's all he cared about, and in that state he'd be a danger to himself and all those around him.

I don't think that was the intention of Corrie. They just wanted him to spend more time in the programme.

They usually are, but then the storyline wouldn't have the massive 'impact' also depends on the offence.
