Is an aging ex-crack addict who resorts to bullying to get what he wants and has only just stopped living with his mother really everyone else's idea of 'royalty'?!

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2...as-royals.html

As soon as I heard of Phil and Shirley's forthcoming wedding I said that it would tie in with the royal 'do'. It was predictable and does makes some kind of commercial sense to me - if you want to pull in the viewers then you might as well capitalize on an event that's already drawing major interest. But to seriously compare Phil's character with royalty? ROFL. That makes no sense at all.

They're going to have to comandeer Glenda's old council flat for the balcony scene...

If Glenda tells Shirley about the affair and Shirley still goes through with the wedding that will be her character basically ruined.

Lol at Phil being seen as royalty..

Shirley is a mug where Phil is concerned, so I think that she will still marry him after (predictably) finding out about Glenda..

Throw in a few wars with the French, crusade or two, six wives, haemophilia and a couple of nephews in a tower and it sounds about right to me.

Yes, but that was back in the dark ages when royalty expected people to kiss their feet...

Oh

I would consider Phil iconic as he has been at EE for 20 years now and has a lot of major storylines, but not "royalty", but then again I hate it when people say that character is soap "royalty" no they aren't, do they go around wearing a crown? no they don't. Do characters curtsey and bow infront of them? yet again no and do those characters' live in castles? no they don't.

Sorry to go on but that saying really annoys me.

Can you imagine Shirley's wedding outfit? Dress as short as her backside and big leather boots.

Oooooft.

Poor old EE - have to resort to copying Corrie again!

Ken and Deirdre got married twice - first time the week Charles married Diana and second time the week Charles married Camilla.

Thanks, you've just answered the question I came in this thread to ask! The idea of tying in a soap wedding with a royal wedding sounded familiar as soon as I read this article.

To be honest, Phil and Shirley are nowhere near iconic enough as a couple to warrant an 'event' wedding like this imo.

I do actually like them together and did want to see their unit develop as a family, however that's been ruined by this whole Glenda affair. As others have said, Shirley's character will be shot to pieces if she still marries Phil after yet another major blow to their relationship.

i think bk gets them as a couple far more than santer ever did. he's had this planned since last august and the affair was only done for steve and laurie's breaks. i trust him to do it properly as he did last night

I would rather see Phil and Shirley's wedding then the bloody Royal Wedding. I wonder if Shirley and Kate will have matching dresses?

Kate could say to William, in her Sloane Ranger voice: "the boots are staying on"

Ugh. Really?????

I am actually a *little* bit excited about the Royal wedding, I must say. I really like Kate Middleton and think she will make an excellent Queen.

I suppose, in a way, EE are portraying a wedding that is the complete opposite to the royal one. Too more unattractive people you could hardly find; both have 0 class in any way.

It may be just me, but I am compleltely disinterested in this wedding. I don't know - I just don't think it suits the relationship between Phil and Shirley at all. It's like, there are certain things that have to be in place before people think about getting married, and none of them are there!

Completely underwhelming imo.

I don't like the Royals. That Kate is hot though I don't care about their wedding, my brothers and sister-laws wedding wasn't all over the news and that, so

I don't think it would be possible for anyone to decide to marry on the same day as the royals now anyway. The moment it was announced, every available venue would already have been fully booked for that date by other couples keen to share it.

Really? - couldn't think of anything worse than getting married on a royal wedding day. Mine missed Edward and Sophie's by 3 days and I was mightily relieved!

Yes. But we're being told that Phil and Shirley are deciding to marry NOW and are able to do it on the same day as the royal wedding. If we're taking events to have happened on the day that they're filmed and not the day that they're shown, then Phil and Shirley won't be marrying on the same day as the royals, will they?
