Forget 'Sir' Brucie, what about Ken Dodd?
I find the whole clamouring to give Bruce Forsyth a knighthood a bit tiresome now, the man is a wonderful performer but there are lots more deserving than him in my opinion (Ronnie Barker and Eric Morecambe both died without knighthoods, for example).
What about Ken Dodd? 83 years old and still touring, still performing sell-out 6 hour gigs. A true giant of comedy respected and revered by many in the industry (even modern comedians whose own acts are very different). Three cheers for Ken Dodd- a true showbiz giant! |

I think he may have been passed over because of his trial for tax evasion - although he was acquitted there was some basis to the charge.

I agree with the first poster that only certain "popular" celebrities appear to be favoured. Some great comedians/entertainers from the eighties appear to have been forgotten. Yes, Bruce also did comedy in the eighties, but there were others more well known though, like Morecambe and Wise for instance, Tommy Cooper (if he didn't get knighted), and all the others who I can't be bothered to name.

Ken Dodd should be knighted-still touring at his age and still very funny.
Saw him last year and he was hilarious-no swearing or toilet humour just a talented comedian. He deserves a knighthood. |

There are still some clean comics, Tim Vine and Milton Jones spring to mind, though at the moment the UK comedy scene seems to be pushing the other way, I'd guess, like Forsyth said at the NTA's, that it'd be difficult for new 'clean' comics to break through at the moment. This article sums it up: http://www.chortle.co.uk/corresponde...3F_no_its_hack...

I adore Ken Dodd. He's a brilliant comedian, he always has me in stitches. Knighthood for Ken and the Diddy Men please, Queenie.

Agreed, for his lifes work as an entertainer he definitely deserves it, but I suspect the tax thing put him out of the running.

Haha! How tickled I am under the circumstances.. have you ever been tickled under the circumstances?
Always been a big fan, and always loved the old variety stuff, especially the old radio shows. I saw him in wolverhampton in december. He started at 7 and was still going at 12am but I had to leave about that time because of that damned snow we had. He does make references to how long his shows are. During the night I went to he would drop comments in during jokes like "After this we shall all go for dinner tonight. Don't worry, I know a place that's open at 3"... and later on say "Ladies and gentlemen, when you leave here in the morning...... etc". After the break he came out with a packed lunch and asked "Didn't you bring yours?". He's got an OBE (One Boiled Egg) but I don't think he will get knighted because of that tax stuff unfortunately. You really do get your moneys worth if you go to see his show.By jove! How tickled I am by good will.. have you ever been tickled by good will? Good old willy!

He does though need to be seen live. Something is lost with Doddy on TV. Leaving apart all your good reasons Vivadiva, the fact that he has single handedly kept open a lot of the smaller theatres, is a good enough reason for a Knighthood. An annual appearance from the great man, always sold out as soon as the tickets go on sale, is enough to keep many going all year. |

A real legend still going in his late years. He doesn't need to but loves what he does & that is a sign of a real pro. I'd love to see him live. |

I'd love to see him live. I don't understand the Brucie love, he's completely lost it IMHO |
