Didn't know this? Apparently he turned 50 a few weeks back but they didn't even celebrate it on screen. The least they could of done was given him a cake and some balloons!

Apparently he's royalty. He probably celebrates his real birthday privately and has an official birthday later in the year.

Ok, I'm a real geek for knowing this, but I was looking on that Eastenders archive site trying to find the synopsis of the episodes I was downloading..and I was reading the one from 25th January 2001, where he turned 40. So I wondered why there was no mention of his birthday this week.

when i first found out about his heart attack i thought it might've happened at his birthday party or something.

OMG, that is TERRIBLE continuity isn't it? If someone is coming up to 50 are we really expected to believe that no one in the family would have mentioned it or the possibility of celebrating it, even if they only got growled at and told to shut up by Phil? Ridiculous.

Maybe Shirley doesn't know it's a big birthday? She wasn't around 10 years ago for his 40th. And his mum, brother and most of his family have gone so nobody but Ben and Ian would necessarily remember - can't see Ian doing anything to mark the occasion!

If he felt anything like me when I turned 50 last year he would have stayed in bed with the duvet over his head weeping! Not everyone embraces theBig O birthdays you know!

Are you suggesting that some who's in a committed relationship wouldn't know how old the other person is?

I know that sounds sarky and rude, that's not my intention, just an observation.

If bonking his aunt (by marriage) and copping off for a couple of weeks in a heroin fueled binge with a druggie is a committed relationship .................

Well it is Eastenders !!!

Well I personally can't imagine not knowing but I bet there are plenty of couples out there who are a bit vague about exact age of partners. Let's face it, I sometimes have to think for a few seconds how old I am myself! And on top of that ... this IS Eastenders!

Snap!

Ewww actually I hadn't thought about Glenda being his aunt before ... so he must have grown up knowing her (although how much older than him is she??? Still I guess maybe when he was a teen she was married to his uncle and producing his younger cousins ...)

like whom? who is around to care and know?

his mother stormed off and never made contact it seems, not even a phone call was mentioned that she settled somewhere yet, his brother is not making much contact either it seems, son is busy with his own trouble, daughter most likely kept away by the mother, Shirley might not have been told or figured it out yet, she doesn't strike me as the type who'd care, R&R wouldn't necessarily know, Glenda is too self-centred to give a toss. did i miss anyone?

and if you are really against celebrating your birthday, family and friends who respect you will accept that one day. mine do and after a few years of me insisting stopped bothering me with birthday wishes and calls.

I am still deeply ashamed to admit that some years ago my father's 60th birthday came and went and none of us made a big deal of it maybe it's different for men? I know my mother certainly made sure we were well aware of her 60th and 70th birthday so we could arrange suitable celebrations!!

Do you not remember when Pauline turned 60? It wasn't mentioned on screen at all, until a few months later when some of the women decided to have a belated party for her and they all dressed up in Sixties gear.

Do you mean Phil the character or Steve McFadden, because either way they both look 70. He looks terrible for his age.

Only 50 huh? Not bad going for him, good for him, so he was 30 when he joined EE in 1990 or 1991? Nice.

I thought Phil turned 50 last year.

I remember the Mitchells throwing him a party and (Ben in particular) wanting to make a big deal out of it. But Phil saying "no balloons" and popping them. Much to Ben's dissapointment. I remember Phil turning to family members and saying "I'm 50, who wants to celebrate that".

So bad continuity indeed. Given the fact Phil turned 50 last year.

He's a miserable git and how people look up to him or feel intimidated by him is a mystery! Such types always land in the shit and come out smelling of roses though, they never seem to get what they deserve! Maybe that's what certain people like about him though. He's a modern day version of what JR was in Dallas but I preferred JR!
