Im looking into freesat and have a couple of questions.

Will freesat run through an existing sky dish after sky tv has been disconnected. Which is the best value freesat HD+ box?

If you had SKY+ you should have 2 wires from your dish that come down into the box, you just unscrew and these plug into a NEW freesat box.

If you only had Normal Sky, you might need a twin LNB fitted so you get 2 wires (this will enable to record 2 channels at once). (its still possible to use but you can only record 1 channel a time).

Best box at the moment is this ---> http://amzn.to/dF3BLn

Can you just install these boxes yourself?

yeah really really easy, if you ever fitted a dvd player this is basically the same.

you just plug in power - plug in either scart or hdmi lead into telly - then the 2 satellite cables.

then turn on, the box then set's it self up - just follow on screen wizard.

You might get less channels than sky but lets face it sky are just repeats and the box is much much more stable than a sky+ box.

I'd plug in the satellite cables before the power cable in case the stb is already on.

Interesting point - I've just installed my first sat system and I see this advice everywhere, can you expand on the reasons why?

Because the F connectors output 13 or 18V depending on which channel the tuner(s) are using. There is the possibility of short circuiting the output and/or a minor shock.

Not true with a foxsat-hdr, using the tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in loop a little less than 50% of the total freesat epg can be 2nd recorded/viewed - additionally a number of 3rd channels can be viewed with even live pause with the right combination of recording channels.

Thanks, this confirms what I suspected, but couldn't verify. As an aside, your views were instrumental in my descision to try FreeSat, for this I thank you as well.
