Looking back, of all 'soaps' (to me its more a tv drama but it seems to get shunned as a soap) what has been the most saddest or disturbing moment in the show..or even gruesome?

For me, it was Jude's stabbing years back, she was a well loved character and I guess that was pretty sad as well as gruesome (she did live though!).

I also thought Ellen's death was very sad too...very moving.

I absolutely loved Jude, one of my all time favourite characters. The episode where Ruth Winters tried to kill herself and the episode focussing on her background were quite sad and moving too. Looks like we're set for some more moving stuff from her this week if the trailers are anything to go by.

Megan's death was sad too.

The most saddest/disterbing moments (or storlines) in my opinoin were when Josh lost his family in the house fire, when Jude was stabbed and when Tina was raped

Josh losing his family in the house fire.
Josh stabbed in the back of the ambulance.
Patrick collapsing and dying after the car crash.
Tess impaled on a massive spike.
Ruth's suicide attempt.
Jude's stabbing.

I'll probably forget loads, but hey.

Ruth Winters' suicide attempt, the music made it even sadder too. I didn't find the sectioning quite so effective, possibly for other reasons anyway, but that was very powerful too.

Megan's death - I didn't even know her as a character until the Sport Relief(?) special episode, but it was so sad at the end.

Patrick's death was not particularly 'sad' or 'disturbing' for me in that it actually made me sad. But it was sad because it was Patrick, and he was just brilliant. Holly's final episode was brilliant for the same reason, although again not really 'sad' or 'disturbing' (and obvs she didn't die!)

Nikki's stabbing episode was very well done I thought.

Lots of smaller scenes with Abs I found very sad or effective, nothing in particular, but just a few things - there was an episode where a man tried to cut his hand off because he was hearing voice and he'd been banging his head, and Abs was talking to him and it got to me fsr (it was also the episode where Dixie played the man's wife!)

And Sam's bipolar storyline. A few scenes with that, but for me, particularly the scene where Tess came home and he was lying on the floor by the bed. And he told her that he'd just wanted to lie on the floor because it was safe there, he couldn't get any lower. It sounds a bit odd, but it was very sad. Kinda related to it as well.

What about when Finn died and the women he was married to got shafted by his other wife?

Is that when it was an Christmas episode and she got hit by a motorbike? Also the episode was divided into various perspectives and not every event was positioned in chronological order. For instance, you saw "Josh stabbed in the back of an ambulance" and then he was okay again a few scenes later but you realised that the events were leading up to finding out who was responsible for the stabbing and of course Ellen being killed. Also if I have remembered the correct episode and if anyone remembers, what was the reason why Ellen so anxious to talk to Harry about in the hospital when she was trying to follow him and when she caught up with him, he said "I will speak to you about it later"?

When Sam fell from the Hospital balcony in the 90s!

That one needs adding to my list too. I was wracking my brains trying to think who fell from the balcony, but I was thinking it was a female nurse for some reason.

I used to absolutely love Jonathan Kerrigan back in the day...

One of my early memories of Casualty was a massive motorway pileup. I think it was late 90's. I remember it scaring me so much. It was the scale of it and how manic it was. Plus I was probably about 9 and shouldn't have been watching.

Paramedic Sandra Mute being stabbed in the back of the ambulance way back in series 2. Possibly the first cast member to die, so it was quite a shock.

And poor old F2 Heather snuffing it on her first day, courtesy of a burning lift dropping on her.

Yes that was a very disturbing moment for me too...I thought before I opened this thread noone would remember her stabbing so I'm glad to see that Jude's stabbing was the first to spring to mind.

Also a little earlier that same series was when Josh's family died in the fire caused by the boiler exploding. That was truly shocking as I never expected they'd kill off his entire family...up to the last I was expecting the daughter to survive.

And another was when Sam got pushed off the balcony.

Nobody does a stabbing like Casualty/Holby!! They're amazing at it!

Jude's stabbing, Josh's family dying in the explosion/fire and him realizing it was his house and racing there in the ambulance, Nikki being stabbed, Josh being stabbed in the back of the ambulance and left for dead, the male nurse being pushed over the balcony... so many great episodes. Selena being shot too.

The saddest moment for me was receptionist Jack played by Will Mellor's death, he died on his wedding day after saving Nikki's life by throwing her off a burning boat, unfortunately he was unable to make it off as he had a bullet through his leg and he burned to death.

When Anna died after the train crash when she had her leg stuck under some rubble, and her brother/boyfriend combination Merlin was there with her. I seriously couldn't stop sobbing!

And just for lulz...
I remember in one episode, a tramp said his foot hurt so they went to take his boot off (that he'd been wearing for years) and his foot came off along with the boot cos he had gangrene! I was crying, but with laughter.

Perhaps you were thinking of Laura Sadler, the actress who played nurse Sandy Harper in Holby City. Laura died after she fell from a window in a block of flats in 2003.

I think the reason why I remember Jude's stabbing the most is because it was kind of one of my first casualty moments I clearly remember. I was about 10 at the time (actually I think i was younger...maybe 7/8) and I used to love casualty (apparently) and Jude was my favourite character.

She was a great character and i'm glad she lived!

I don't watch regularly so this one is probably rubbish to real fans but the nurse Tess fell and got impaled on a huge spike in a deserted area. It was so grim, she was there for ages just holding on and crying for help. I couldn't even imagine being in a position like that where all you could do is wait.

How many people have died or been stabbed on 'casualty'? I mean the main cast (the nurses/doctors etc..not patients etc! lol). Alot have met their end whilst 'on the job' haven't they...or nearly..

-Jude (nearly)
-Ellen
-Tess (nearly)
-Nicki (nearly)
-Charlie (nearly).

Was Jude the one who got stabbed in an empty corridor? And it seemed a while before anyone noticed? If so that's the eppie of Casualty that's been confusing me for years, one of the first I watched and I never quite knew what happened to the character!
