Itunes? You kidding lol? Worst piece of software ever!!

Anyway having come from an iphone 4 to my current desire hd i can say your way wrong on the media player. Its pretty much on par with the iphones. One isnt better than the other. Having said that i have noticed the desire hd does handle HD video playback better than the iphone 4. Sometimes the iphone would jitter slightly. Haven't seen that on this phone yet.

Camera and video are better on this phone than the iphone 4.

As for the iphone being the best, well no, its not.

A lot of the staff where I work all had iphones, out of 26 of us, at least 20 had the iphone! that was 2 years ago, now the iphone fraternity are down to 5 ! a;; the rest have gone to Android, nad have Desire's and Galazy's mainly.

Also a lot of IT bods in an office down the road are now forgoing the iphone for an Android based unit.

There are plenty of pro Apple and pro Android fans to fill the void he's left, yesterday a thread was locked because of one gobby Apple and one gobby Android fan mouthing off; the thread had run nicely for days and was shut because these two did not take the hint.

Powerful? yes the Android phones have pretty bad power management.

No Android phone sells anywhere near as well as the iPhone.

Holidays are in your nature, you will go again, you won't be able to help yourself; its only a matter of when.

'We' have realised that we can talk about various phones without the 'mine is best' over the last couple of weeks, a refreshing change from the normal diet and I hope it continues.

I'll say TTFN for now, I'm off to Portugal in the morning

Well I suppose every 6 months or so and I have never said "my Nokia E72 is better". It may have been the best choice for me, but I shall leave it at that.

itunes on a Mac runs fine, they just never seemed to have got it to work well on Windows. Which is a shame as it has a decent user interface as well as some nice features.

I finally ditched itunes the other day for Media Monkey. It may not be flash but it does the job well, no performance issues and it doesn't hog a lot of system resources. Bonus is it works with my ipod

Google need to bring out there own version. As if they could design a good media player that syncs with Android phones as well as having there own online store for songs/apps built into it, then it may help sway some people away from the iPhone when it comes to their next upgrade. I know other software out there can do all that, but if you were to say "Media Monkey" to the average Joe in the street they wouldn't have a clue. But say "Google Tunes" or whatever and I bet after a while it would be recognized more by the public.

I have a Blackberry as my work phone and an Android (HTC) for my personal one. Both of them have their advantages.

For work I don't care about access to thousands of apps but what I do want is a reliable phone, solid o/s and good battery life. The BB delivers. For personal use I don't mind something a little bit more quirky and fun even if it's a bit rough around the edges. That's Android.

I took a look, but it's Windows only. iTunes runs fine on a Mac, but I'm willing to look at something else.

Hope its ok to jump into a thread and ask a few questions about Android and apps.

I have a Desire and looking into getting a few more apps on it. Bit worried that im going to install something that could harm the phone or make it run slower, for example, how can you tell what size the app is so that you can tell how much space they are all taking up?

Have looked around a bit and its worrying the access the app has to your phone once you have installed one. Just looking on the Android market and if you install the Kindle app for free it has access to your phone calls so it can see who your trying to contact!

I don't have an Android phone but I find this hard to believe. Does this information come from a reputable source?

On the wider point of malicious apps, there was a study done recently (that didn't attract much attention on here) that found 50 apps on the official Marketplace were malware or viruses. They'd been downloaded tens or hundreds of thousands of times. Google then went in and remotely deleted them from all affected handsets. An act of good, but it does beg the question of how much remote control of your phone is possible. (Not just on Android, I hasten to add.)

Thanks for the info.

I was on this website and it says about 'permissions' given to the app.:

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

Including with some of the apps permission to modify/delete usb storage and SD cards contents!!

The app might want permission to modify contents of SD card so that it can store information there, which is perfectly reasonable.

If you stick to apps from reputable companies (I think you're fairly safe with Amazon) you'll be fine.

As for something that wants access to your contacts, that might be so it enables a feature that allows you to recommend a book to a friend.

There are lots of perfectly good reasons for apps to integrate with other apps on the device in order to give you a better phone experience. By having the Android Market website, which you linked to, tell you what things the app will access, it's being transparent and is more honest than doing that stuff via the backdoor.

You're wise to ask the question, but if you stick to installing apps from bigger, better known companies, you should be fine.

Can you imagine using a file manager that can't even create a folder on your SD card? No? Well it gets that simple. The permissions are the responsility of the app, and the choice is made by you whether it gets that permission, so I don't understand the panic.

But I think this is the problem for Android. Due to how much cheaper it is, it tends to be more popular with kids. Whereas Due to its price premium, the iPhone tends to have a more mature market... one who will happily pay for apps, or songs from the itunes store.

Android may have a lot of users but it doesnt make much in additional sales. Whereas not only do apple make money on the handset, but they've somehow managed to create a business model where people will happily pay out for the phone, pay a higher tarrif (of which Apple takes a cut) and then they have users who spend loads on apps and songs. I cant imagine Apple is too worried!

Cheaper?

The desire HD isnt that much cheaper to buy, neither are the newer handsets coming out soon either.

The only ones i see kids with are either iphones or cheap nasty android handsets.

What price premium is that? My DHD comes on a premium price tariff. As do all top end phones.

As for the more mature market, i see this drivel a lot from apple users and i don't quite get where it comes from. First off everyone i know who has an iphone has it jailbroken so they can install apps without buying them whereas most who have Android phones don't know where to start to download stuff illegally for it.

That's the problem, apple are worried. Androids user base has grown faster than apples ever has. Its starting to take users away from apple.
