That's the problem, apple are worried. Androids user base has grown faster than apples ever has. Its starting to take users away from apple.
I've seen this phrase used a lot recently. How do we actually know Apple are worried, has someone within the company said something?

Because Jobs spent 10mins taking cheap shots at it during the iPad2 announcement and adverts like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVvVQ...layer_embedded. And as Gandhi said "First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win."

They do that all the time, it's just their way of stiring up the Apple fanbase.

Well the cheap shots for one show something's not right.

Lets be honest, any company who's on the top then has a new player come along, swipes some of your user base away, their handsets are much better, OS is better and then to top it all off its selling faster and quicker than yours ever has or will, they have everything to worry about!

Was it me or was the ipad 2 launch this time a damp squib?

Normally any announcement from apple was huge but from reading the tech sites i do, no one seemed to be interested this time round. I think the same will happen with the iphone 5. Nothing new. Just same boring old iphone with a different number.

No doubt Apple will be worried about Android and see it as a serious threat - they'd be stupid not to - but the bit in bold is personal opinion rather than fact.

And yet I predict both will sell in huge numbers.

Ok, the OS maybe but there's no denying the newer handsets as in DHD etc apart from the display maybe are streets ahead of the iphone 4. Will of course change when the iphone 5 comes out.

Probably, from the people who already have their devices!

It's hard to judge. As I said in another thread, I found the DHD slow and sluggish, but I admit I only got to use it for a very short period of time. I wouldn't necessarily say it's streets ahead, but I suspect we'll always disagree on that point!

It's the way of product cycles when it comes to technology. You can buy something brand new and top of the range, and within a very short period of time there will be something out with a better spec.

I thought that Engadget and Gizmodo got themselves into a frenzy over it, although even their reviews weren't quite as glowing as they normally are for any Apple product.

Best part of the iPad 2 is that its brought down the price of the iPad.

Never look at those sites really. Just normally there's a zillion page thread on here but i didn't see one.

One thing i hate about the new ipad is that awful venetian blind thing over the front of it. Makes it look cheap and nasty.

Slow and sluggish?

I compared it with my dads iphone 4 last friday and it was much snappier

Indeed. Like the iphone was top dog for a while, now it isn't, But then that cycle will continue.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S which I got a few weeks back.

It's a smashing little device. Really easy to navigate around and lots of features that I'm still getting used to.

Can't compare it to anything else as it's the first smart phone I've had.

Well, that's obvious. If they managed their money properly, they'd have been able to afford an iPhone in the first place!

Joking, joking!!

To be honest, I don't think these kind of polls, surveying relatively few people, say a great deal about anything.

Ha. Damn it!!

Joking aside, as I said in my earlie post, I'm sceptical that these surveys tell us anything. 2000 people surveyed, and a third said they had a smartphone. So if we assume they were evenly split over the three platforms (which they probably weren't, but just as an example) then that's only 200 people surveyed per platform. And the numbers deviate so little from the national average, for all three platforms, that I can't see what relevance it has, really.

It needed major editing. The original article was written stupidly so it is no it's no major surprise that the writer was 'a bit thick' ir his brain was fitted 'back to front'.

Obviously those spending large funds on mobile phones are more likely to be in debt.

Game set and match for Android now?

It seems that other systems lost towards 10% + market share in the UK March to March.
Very bad news for RIM and with IOS losing 16.5%, down from 39.5% you can see why I very expect them to release budget devices.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...nokia-rim-lose

Of course the market grew so it is not all bad news. RIM doing well in the UK is an enigma.

I've never understood how RIM have become so popular outside of the enterprise. I supported various BB devices in a corporate environment years back, and can totally understand the interest in the products - but outside of that environment they make little real sense.

Teenagers and 20 somethings. I know loads who have got BlackBerry devices recently. BlackBerry Messenger is the killer app - it's free, cheaper than texting. Even with 1000s of bundled messages a month, they eat through them, so unlimited messages to your BB wielding mates is a massive money saver. Plus, they mostly have hardware keyboards so you can text even faster!

Yup, I can vouch for this. I work in a school and I can tell you I've probably confiscated more Blackberrys than I have iPhones or other devices.

('Course, it might just be that the ones who feel the need to text in my class will be the sort that need to text / Facebook at every opportunity, so my sample might be somewhat skewed )

I don't see what apple has to be worried about, at the moment.

An apple iPhone is an iPhone, one complete high end phone/multimedia package.

With Android however, you've got the budget stuff with a multitude of low spec CPUs different screen types, many with poor screen resolutions, differing amounts of memory, and on top of that there's also the mobile phone manufacturers own take on android.
In amongst that mix there is also the high end stuff as well which can more than compete with the iPhone on paper.

It'll be complete when it has a decent camera. Until then its massively compromised, at least for those who value a decent camera on their device.

My (ex) step son is on BB, and still don't quite see how a BB (with the invariable BB related tariff add-on) makes more financial sense than an unlimited text tariff.

And those horribly cramped keyboards .... ewwww, RSI central!
