Just the Dock or the whole thing? Because I do use Launcher Pro and have never found a way to use it to theme the whole thing. And I'm sure i've read there are things you need to edit system files to change, like the notification bar for example
Yeah, if you want to theme things like the notification bar then you're going to need root access.

Really easy to install and switch between themes though if you have a custom rom like CyanogenMod.

That's how mine looks just now. Weather widget is a bit brave there, definitely isn't 19 degrees.

It's where the phone tries to send the message without the area code, a quick google search shows all different phones having the same problem. Ironically, Handcent's the only sms app i've found not affected
I am sure you have tried this, but can you not store the area code with the contact? Thus when it sends the message it gets the area code and number for the contact?

Not normal ones no, i'm talking about stock ones from other phones, like HTC sense LWP or Nexus One LWP
Ok fair enough...if those wallpapers are not made available, then yes you will need specialist knowledge on how to get them onto the phone.

I know for ADW you can download themes from the market, they will change quite a lot. I have never tried this program, so can not comment on what it changes. On the market page, there is a youtube video, that shows it in action.

Yes all my numbers are saved with the area code, but sending messages to some contacts with the stock sms app and Chompsms tries to send the text to the number and leaves off the area code. Yet it only happens when trying to reply to a message and only with some contacts, not all of them. and using Handcent gets rid of the problem all together.

Android support says it's just a problem with the San Francisco and I should talk to the people that make it about it, yet there are people with the exact same problem with HTC phones, so i'm guessing it's a problem with Android itself

What do you mean by area code? UK mobiles don't have such a thing. Any links to the problem?

Alpha gamer, you in the States mate? In the UK your area or STD code has to be included in any text message or call.

The +44 infront of UK numbers
I was also texting someone in Australia which has +61 infront of the number

This is the only one I have handy. http://www.google.com/support/forum/...db344914&hl=en but googling things like "Android can't reply to sms" has brought up several results in the past.

And no, not in the States

Typically you would call that a "country code" rather than an "area code". Area codes are, eg. 0207 / 0161 / etc.

Anyhow, I couldn't find very many discussions about this "very common" problem you described. How are your international numbers stored in your phone? 07xxx or +617xxxx or 00617xxx? Might make a difference.

I went on holiday for a month last year with my Desire. I put a local chip in my phone, and used to text family/friends in the UK, I had to change my numbers to start with +44. Then I could send texts no problem. I was using handcent. The only problem I had with handcent, was that it was on some occasions sending two texts rather than one.

If handcent works, and chomp doesnt...it would seem its a software problem. I take it you have raised the issue with chomp?

I dont really see this as a Android problem. What about the stock texting app?

My guess would be that the thread "remembers" the format of the number from the first message, and therefore no amount of changing the number is going to fix it whilst that thread continues. It might be worth a shot deleting the thread and THEN trying the different number formats.

I love Android, I'm currently on my fourth Android handset, a LG Optimus One (which is great).

I started with a budget phone (Vodafone 845) to try the Android OS out, then when I moved to 3 for a better data deal I got a ZTE Racer followed by a Samsung Europa until last week when I got my Optimus.

Hopefully I'll be able to get a Nexus S in a few months as it looks like a brilliant handset.

I would never go back to Nokia because their OS is old fashioned and over-complicated and having tried out a new WindowsPhone 7 I cant explain why but that OS just did my head in

I have a new iPod touch so see no point in getting an iPhone.

Android Rules
It's always good to look back at old posts ...
Since I wrote the above post, I broke my LG and got a X10mini which was nice to start with but the screen limitations got to me and I ended up getting another LG Optimus One (Uograded to 2.2)
I have decided against the Galaxy S in favour of a new LG Optimus 2X, unless something else catches my eye before I upgrade in a few months.

The big problem for Apple is that there is just one iPhone whereas there is a who range of Android devices to suit all budgets and requirements. Apple is all about maintaining the exclusivity of their devices (apart from the iPod where they went very mass market) which means that if you want to join the Apple cult but can only afford a cheap device - then tough. Even RIM have realised that different parts of the market want different devices.

I'm amazed how many kids have iPhones. Their parents must have more money than sense.

Android is eating up market share because it is clearing up at the bottom and middle of the market. Perhaps Apple need to get over themselves and bring out a cheap iPhone.
Quite a few Android based devices are very much at the top end too. However a distinction needs to be made in comparing the iPhone to the Android Platform which not the same as comparing the iOS platform to the Android platform. Nevertheless Android will naturally gain market share as there is a device for all tastes and budgets - there is little doubt about it being the dominant platform in this regard.

So whilst the iPhone market share dropped 40% in the UK and halved in France, the iPhone doubled sales to 18.5 million, this also over 12 months.

Yet Windows 7 has sold 350 million in 18 months shows the incredible growth prospects for smartphones. It seems incredible that Apple make more profit than Microsoft.

Anyone got a ruler?

Yeah, it does seem odd.

With Apple suing every tom, dick and harry in order to survive, its clear they are bloody scared of Android with news that with Android's current growth it could erode the iPhone business within a year or 2. This claim is from Gartner Research.

A slight exaggeration though long term Apple will have to adapt,

I would not be too shocked if Apple profits double again this year.
The simplicity and licensing model of ARM compared to Intel helps make the technology hard to beat. The very low ARM costs must make it far worse for Microsoft.
