Help - Philips DVDR80 Installation
Maybe i am just plain thick but............the installation of this damned thing is sending me nutty.
I have a TV with 2 scarts, a sky digi box and the new Philips dvdr80. I have tried many variations on setting this thing up and not getting anywhere fast. The manual says do it one way and i get good interaction on just one AV channel between the TV and DVD player. I cannot record anything though. What is the best way to connect all three of these items. The Philips dvdr80 has guide plus but because i have no outdoor antenna it does not tune programmes. I have never needed one due to having sky digital. I would appreciate all help. |

Connect "TV Scart" on the Sky Digibox to "EXT2" on the DVD recorder.
Connect "EXT1" on the DVD recorder to a scart socket on the TV. You can now record Sky Digital by selecting the "EXT2" input. You will also be able to view Sky Digital on the television as normal. |

Thankyou...........that has solved one problem.
The next problem is material dissapearing off my discs. I taped 4 songs tonight from music video programmes and 2 of them just disappeared without trace from my disc. I know for a fact that i did not delete them. I thought that when i had got rid of my Lite-On 5001 i had cured an headache. I have just purchased another headache to replace the first one it seems. This one was a costly one though. These recorders seem very unstable to me. Are dvd recorders really worth the hassle ? |

If you pressed record after watching some of the disc, you would have started recording from that position, overwriting the disc's contents (just like VHS). If you want to ensure you're adding to the end of the disc rather than overwriting, hold down the record button rather than simply pressing it. |

i bet thats what i did.
Actually, after each song i recorded i pressed the pause button. Then if a song did not come on the channel that i liked i pressed the stop button instead. Is this why i have had the problem ? Cheers. |

Yes I do, the DVDR70.
I have trained myself to always hold the record button instead of press it. That way I never make any silly mistakes.

NEVER BUY PHILIPS DVD MACHINE!!!! I feel that the Philips machines are targeted at those who want a simple replacement for their VCR and nothing too flashy, mine does that job well. Unfortunatly the make has come in for some bad publicity due to older models which had major problems, to exclude all future models is a mistake in my view. |

I set up the connection like requested and it will not stay set on EXT2. It keeps switching to cam 2 etc. This is really annoying. When this happens i cannot simply press a button and get it back to EXT2. I am having to make programmed recordings to get this channel. That is no good when i want to impulse record something from sky. |

Silly question, but you know that you have to switch to "monitor" to change the channel, yes? (If it's like the 70, that is)
Also, have you applied the latest firmware update? |

However, it is not given as advise in the manual i have. This makes life much easier now i know that. Cheers mate. |
