Did anyone see Casualty on Saturday?
Twenty Eleven

I missed most of it and only caught the end few minutes and now iplayer is refusing to work for me

I've got most the gist with the regular storylines - Ruth's ilness and Kirsty finally managing to get the courage to leave her husband, but what was going in in a scene where there was some girl in a hospital bed being told by some oldish guy that he couldn't be her friend anymore ?

She was a kid from a 'special' school (their words, not mine) and he was her teacher. He let her round his house after school so he could wash her uniform for her while she watched TV because her parents were handicapped and couldn't do it for her and he didn't want to get social services involved. Oh and the girl had a crush on him, but he didn't know. He also made her the birthday cake that made everyone ill, which was why they were there in the first place.

He apparently didn't realise how this would be seen to other people and told her she couldn't come round anymore.

One of casualty's less believable storylines if you ask me!

Ahh thank you!

from the brief clip I saw I must admit I jumped the gun and just immediatley thought the worst of him, although it does sound a bit weird.

I did briefly hear the birthday cake mentioned and that's what threw me, I did think that the girl seemed a bit 'different' the way she was talking about the cake.

Thanks, I hope iplayer decides to work before Saturday so I can catch up properly, although I am convinced it was Nita who pushed mr nasty down the stairs.

iplayer is now working but there is no flipping sound!

What on earth did he put in that cake?

I mean I have made some cakes in the past that have turned out a bit dodgy or lumpy or something, but how has he poisoned everyone?

If it was in any part of the cake, then it'd just spread and everyone ate a bit so they all got it I guess..
Download it, might work then?
And I never thought of it being Nita! Bet it is now..

It would make sense I think that it was Nita then they can make a bit of a story out of Kirsty covering up for her like a parent would.

It's probably the computer I am on so I will just try again before Saturday night, I'm just curious about what he put in a apart from eggs, flour and the usual that made everybody so bad.

Unless it was just out of date stuff

Yeah (: It would make sense why they were showing her being upset by it... I think thats the first time they've done that?
I don't think it said what was in the cake, either that or I wasn't listening properly

I thought it was Nita at first but when I watched it again she was crying on her bed when there was a big thump and it went quiet so I'm not sure now. I think Nita might say it was her to protect Kirsty

I actually felt a bit sorry for him.He clearly wasn't a pervert, just a lonely and naive middle aged man who befriended the girl.

It was obvious too that the girl had come to no harm as a result of her friendship with him.It probably would have been less of an issue had he not been her schoolteacher,as there are strict guidelines covering the whole area of contact between staff and pupils.

I've watched some of it - with sound! lol

Got to go though, time up on computer.

It's a bit of a shame how the doctors have to change how they speak because someone is from a special school but it is understandable.

Sorry x

I got the impressed he'd be abused by one of his teachers, he said he went round to one of their houses, yeah it was Kirsty if you watch it an pay attention you'll see she hears the crash him falling down the stairs. We don't know what was in the cake, the girl also took the head teachers dead mums neckless. We also don't know if he'd abused the girl or not.

I'm just watching the second half on iplayer now.

He must have put something really bad in the cake for everybody to get so ill. I don't know what was going on between him and that girl, maybe there wasn't anything going on? He just couldn't be friends with her any more, I remember when I was at school that if you were friends with a teacher you weren't allowed to see them at all out of school.

he managed to convince the hospital staff that his motives were honourable, and to say he was unaware of the boundaries was a bit far fetched given that as a teacher he would have at least attended child protection training!

I've watched it all now, I think that what he mentioned about going to his teachers house when he was at school might of had something to do with it. We were only allowed to go to Mrs Hargrave's house when it was the holidays - not when we were at school.

bit creepy that he was secretive about it

The teacher clearly wasn't a bad person : it's just that we live in a paranoid society that is completely obsessed with "perverts".I think he was intelligent enough to know that his friendship with the girl would be viewed suspiciously which is why he tried to keep it under wraps.

I don't think his motive was sexual at all, more likely that he was just lonely and enjoyed her company.....there was no suggestion he had ever behaved inappropriately with her.The main problem for him is that he was her teacher,as there are strict guidelines to prevent them having contact with their pupils outside of school.Had he just been a regular member of the public,it would have been less of an issue.

Thanks, I understand I think now. I hope that he wasn't a pervert or anything, he was badly in the wrong because he was her teacher but he maybe just felt a bit sorry for her and he said that he didn't want to break her family up as she might not have been able to do so well without her parents at all. People think that you need to get away from your parents etc and stand on your own 2 feet but then what would you have?

He might have been in the same situation so felt like he was friends with someone who understood rather than him having dodgy feelings.
