I have to say I'm really loving Coronation Street now more than ever...

This Fishwick story is just pure excellence. There have been so many twists and turns making it exciting telly, with plenty of drama and dark humour thrown in. I feel really invested in the characters, with my emotions being split... John has done some terrible things and Fiz has also broken the law so I'm telling myself that justice should be done and they should be punished, but I think they are genuine and loveable characters and I find myself hoping that they'll get away with it all.

I think the Peter/Leanne/Nick/Carla story is great as well. It's a love square which makes things different and I love how Nick is reveling in his evil plan to split up Peter and Leanne. It makes a story like this more exciting and I found myself shouting at the telly tonight "OMG Nick! You're so bad! How could you even do that?!" and then Leanne falling into his arms at the end... I felt so frustrated... I wish Leanne could see what he was doing! But I smiled when Carla saved the day I just feel so emotionally invested in it all.

Some of my favourite characters are Carla - she has so many layers to her. She's intriguing and there's loads to explore with her. I just love Rosie too - she makes me laugh all the time now, whilst a year or so ago I did think she was terrible!

Eileen and Julie are great together and we have a decent new bad boy in Owen and I just love how the whole Street hate Tracy it brings about some great lines in the Rovers. I just hope she becomes involved in an interesting plot soon and isn't just left sniping at others as it will get boring after a while.

The Sally/Kevin saga has turned into brilliant comedy too.

I see Coronation Street as appointment television now. Who agrees or disagrees?

Just to add... I just find Ken so wooden and Deirdre so melodramatic that it's hilarious!

The love square is the best thing about it at the moment.

The fishwick stuff...? Meh.

It's my favourite soap at the moment. Really compelling - quite a few good stories on the go and all interweaving. Most of the cast are pretty strong too.

I love Rosie Webster too after a period of time of absolutely loathing her - they've really turned her into a great comic character.

The love square is amazing, and is set to get even better in the upcoming couple of weeks. I'm prepared to counter the involvement of toxic with the increased appearances of Carla!

And Rosie webster is just a gem of a character right now! Who would have predicted her and jason would be comedy gold!

Corrie is an absolute joy at the moment.

Eddie Windass was hilarious at Sally's house and I am so sad he is leaving.

It's highlighting how poorly written Eastenders really is!

And yet EE wins the awards. I'm not complaining, just completely baffled (I did vote).

100% agree with this. I really didn't enjoy her character at all until she hooked up with Jason. Would love to see a lavish Jordan style wedding with these two!!

Since PC took over - it's easily been the best soap.

I always enjoy Corrie and think it's been on a different level since the tram crash disaster back in December.

I never used to like the John pretending to be Colin Fishwick storyline and thought it was silly...however, now that Fiz has been dragged into it and is pretending to be Joy Fishwick's DIL so she can claim the inheritance money for Hope, I see it in a different light. I think it shows just how one small thing (like John pretending to be CF just so he can do the one thing he loves in life - teach) can snowball and despite your best intentions you just can't get out of it.

Loving Jason and Rosie as well - they are so funny together and they have to stay together forever imo I just can't see them being with anybody else now.

Oh what rot.

Corrie is great in comedic terms at the minute but the only 'serious' storyline which is working is the Windass family/the adoption of Faye/Gary's army woes. The Leanne and Peter stuff is boring as hell and Nick as a villain has to be one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've ever seen on television. Given how they've spotted the reaction to Tracey and quickly ended her contract you'd think they'd at least give Nick a bit less screen time. He ruins everything.

Some of the writing is rather sloppy too such as the solicitor handily agreeing to wire that eight grand direct into 'Mrs Fishwick's bank account. It was funny but ultimately absurd.

They really have got the pacing of stories down to a fine art. Not too fast, not too slow, everything moves along nicely.

Before now, most stories would have had their reveals six months later, but now it's just a few weeks.

I also like how there are so many concurrent stories, so when we have a break for short while from certain characters, there is always something going on to take their place.

A couple of times lately I've seen a character for the first time in a few weeks and remembered a whole story connected to them that's been on the backburner.

PS: I never like taking sides in the 'soap war', it always seems a bit pointless, but to call Corries current stories absurd when compared to the stuff Eastenders is churning out lately seems absurd in itself.

I think the thing is that when Corrie does it's daft stories, it's always very tongue in cheek. Eastenders often takes itself far to seriously, so when they do a daft story, they have to try and insist it's an 'issue'.

the fishstape storyline is utter shite and should be ended sooner rather than later as fizz now involving herself in it after months of bellowing at john for id theft is as hypicritical as Molly screaming at ty all those months before marriage just to shag his best mate as soon as the ink was dry.

Enjoying the PB / Carla/ Leanne/ Nick quadrangle though. thats about the only decent storyline at the moment, and where is emily?

Eileen & Julie comedy gold, julie has been so underused, i hope they keep these 2 together, they are great!!

Alright cut it out, we don't need a banter which soap is better, they are both different and good in their own way.

I am loving Corrie, but I am getting a bit fed up with Fiz, I am finding her irritating. They need to give this storyline a little rest for a while. Apart from that, I am enjoying everything else, especially between Peter, Leanne, Nick and Carla, I am looking forward to how it all pans out.

I really like how they are pacing the stories out. I think thats been the best improvement overall.
There seems to be no story or one character completely dominating every episode for weeks, sometimes months on end, while others just don't get a look in and are glorified extras, like Julie for example, It was a major problem last year.

I have also noticed that characters are popping up for the odd scene or too near the end of each episode. usually if you don't see a character before the first break then the character wouldn't be in the episode. I like that different characters appear throughout the episode, even more so in the double episodes, because the interaction just seems better. It feels like there is actually a cast all working together on different stories at the same time.

All the stories don't seem to be going on too long, or moving too slowly. They seem to be given time to rest a story for a week or too, while another one comes in, meaning none of them outstay there welcome.

I love how the new producer has turned it around so quickly. Also the way they've handled the baby Hope stuff is very realistic. A very premature baby would be kept in hospital for a long time.

Corrie is definitely reigning supreme at the moment. Somehow Rosie and John have become two of my favourite characters. At the moment am enjoying that Becky, Tracy and (much as I love him) Steve aren't dominating the scenes. There was a time when they were and I prefer it now, a more ensemble type show. Hope it continues.

Agree with most of the comments on this thread. Stapegate is compulsive viewing - just can't wait to see the next twist.

Tracy still irritates me as a character, but I'm quite enjoying the snubbing she gets from everyone else.

Great post Davey Wavey! The show is unmissable right now. To think that this time last year we had the beginnings of the utter crap that was the Joe and Gail boat saga. The show has come along in leaps and bounds.

I really don't want to start a thread to ask this question. It's from 2004. Did the Croppers ever get the 25,000 back from Tracey for the sale of Patience/Amy? Doing my head in trying to remember!

On Topic - Totally loving all things Corrie at the moment!

Much as I abhor Tracyluv, she has been the catalyst for some fantastic moments from both Gail and Eddie. Corrie really does do comedy so realistically and so well.

Corrie's the only soap I watch now. Went off Emmerdale and hate Eastenders.

Not necessarily the right thread, but been on holiday. What the hell is wrong with Kevin's face ? It had calmed down in the last episode, but previously he looked bright orange, or like he'd been burned

I am loving the show at the moment. It really is the best soap on the box at the moment, and PC has really turned the show around.
