Foxsat HDR audible clicking noise
My Humax Foxsat HDR makes an audible clicking noise when watching from the buffer, is this a known issue, if so will it be rectified with the next update (if it ever happens !).
If you can record from the buffer, I woudn't fancy having recordings with the clicking noise aswell! |

This is probably the drive head moving back and forth to read - write - read - write the buffer.
It's often a sign of impending HD failure if you start to hear a noticeable clicking noise that was not previously present. (Of course, that is assuming the noise is mechanical and not electronic - i.e. coming from the speakers.) |

No problem with mine at all. Is the noise mechanical or actually on the audio ?. As an experiment the other day I transferred the 0.ts file to a PC and the file replayed no problem.

The sound appears to be on the audio, only when watching playback from the buffer.

I thought this had been mentioned previously and that I'd looked on here and other people were having the same issue, so it was not a problem with my box. It's been like it since new, it's not got any worse.

We can only really speculate - and even that's not easy.
The only thing I can think of is that there is something slightly amiss with the head actuator on the HD and it isn't properly suppressed and is being picked up somewhere in the audio. But as you don't mention any clicking during other operations that doesn't seem all that likely. Is it safe to say that if you are recording one thing whilst watching something else there is no clicking? How frequent are the clicks? |

That's right no clicking while recording something when watching something else. The clicks are every couple of seconds (quite soft but audible) it's not bothered me overly because i rarely watch from the buffer but as I mentioned earlier I wouldn't want to record from the buffer and get the clicking.
I'm at work at the moment (busy! ) I'll double check when I get in that it's from the audio and not the HD (i hope it's not the HD)

![]() Clicks on the audio, not from the HD when watching from the buffer. Even with an external decoder fed from the optical output. Frank |

Had a check over the weekend, the clicking noise is from the audio and is intermittent. I struggled to watch from the buffer and find/hear the clicking but managed to find a couple of patches which lasted about 15 - 20 seconds.
On previous occasions the instances can be more protracted (15 minutes or more), on these occasions i think I was watching from a full buffer, as opposed to only up to 45 minutes accumulated when checking over the weekend. |

Just noticed the clicking noise while watching from the buffer.
Was BBC1 HD, paused it for about 2 mins. Could only notice the clicking when close to the TV, and it appeard to alternate between the left & right speakers every few seconds, connect to my Panny LCD TV via HDMI. But there was no clicking on quiet parts or silent parts, just when talking or music. |

Does the clicking get louder if the audio track is louder? (By that I mean if the actual sound track has a higher level rather than when you turn the volume up.) If that is the case you would expect it to change position according to where the loudest part of the audio track appears. Can you discern if that is the case? (Not that anyone other than Humax will be able to provide you with a solution if it is as it would definitely be a software fault.) |

I I.e no clicks during quiet passeges. Or maybe just not as noticeable. I reported it to Humax ages ago....never did get a reply ![]() Probably a buffering fault in the firmware. Frank |
