My Pet - Bragging Thread (In a Nice Way)
Hogzilla

I want to brag about my dog so thought we might set off a little bragging thread, here so we can all brag about the pets we're proud of.

Today I had a message on FB from someone in France who is interested in bull terriers. He was star-struck over my dog - said she was a 'stunner' - knew all the ccs (Challenge Certrificates) she'd won (Before I had her - I don't even know the details!), could name her parents and called her littermate 'legendary'!

Such a thrill.

We had her when she was 2 from a breeder who had shown her and had a lot of wins, but decided to sell her to us as her sister was winning even bigger. She is now nearly 11.

We have always known she was a bit of a star in her day but although she was Crufts qualified that year we got her, we retired her from the show ring and she has been a much loved pet; a kissy, quiet, sweet natured little thing at the end of the sofa, or draped across someone's knee...

It's always been a bit of a joke in our house that she was a 'supermodel'. But over time, it's something I'd almost forgot about - that I have this stunningly beautiful little doggy at home that people across the world have heard of and would love to have! She'd be beautiful to us whatever she looked like. But to see someone from another country excited because they're messaging 'the' [insert kennel name here] brought it all back to me.

I was lucky getting her and only managed it because we've had bullies all our lives and my dad knew a few people, in his day. I sometimes forget how lucky I was.

She has such a sweet nature and is so loved, we have long forgot quite who she is or that her name means something to other people. It stunned me, to hear that from someone abroad after all this time.

So what makes you proud of your pet?

A few years ago a bloke came over to repair a window shutter and told me my cat had been blessed by the prophet Muhammad because she had a perfect M on her head (she's a tabby), meaning he had pet her on the head when she was a kitten. She was sitting there, all poised, made me proud (even though I'm not a religious person, it's still a nice story)

Also, she had a tumor removed not long ago, the vet said she didn't try to scratch or bite and was a trooper.

Yup, that's about all I have at the moment ....

Nice.

I can't brag about my cat, Helen, The Tripod of Evilness, as unlike the dog - the cat has no distinguishing features apart from her horrible personality and repulsive looks.

The only positive thing to be said about her (after 16 years of proud ownership of this fine animal) is that she loves the dog. She dribbles on us too which in her book, is 'affection'.

ETA: We love her really.

My cat has lived in three different continents, has a single "lucky" white whisker on an otherwise unlucky all-black demeanour. She is literally the cutest pet I've ever had and she's just a standard issue moggy. She tells me in little grunts when she is hungry or when she wants a hug too. No meowing from this puss, far too posh for that!

My dog has just managed to chew a hole in my duvet, cock his leg against my clothes airer and do a poo on my carpet just in the five minutes I was in the kitchen doing the washing up. He's very talented.

Took my cats to the vets to get registered chipped and vaccinated when I got them. The vet had the female one (Asia) out for ages saying how beautiful she was asking me loads of questions about her. Got her injected, all sorted out. Took a while.

Then she took the male one out (Maverick) and didnt say a word. injected him, bunged him straight back in the box. took 60 seconds!

Favourtism or what!?

Summat similar happened to me a few years back. I'd just got my spectacularly beautiful, 'famous' and very friendly bull terrier (see post # 1 above) I was so proud of her. Took her to the vet's - got the most perfunctory attention and a few sniffy looks - peed me off as vets should know better than to believe the negative press of bull breeds.

A matter of weeks earlier, I'd gone with a friend with their stinky, revolting, ancient, rather ugly mongrel to an appointment and had seen the same vet. She was all over this fleabag!

I don't think she even recognised me, although it was only a few weeks apart.

I'd have just thought she was being businesslike if I hadn't seen her with the other dog, before.

My old Stafford bitch Rosa (rip) was a uk weight pull and conformation champion, in shows dedicated the old time type dogs. She stole the show one day, beating all in her class lb for lb, pulling 860lbs at 24lbs bodywieght, earning her title.
My current staff didn't take to pulling, but did a few kc shows and placed well under judges who prefered the old time types and a fit dog. I never campaigned him much as I will not have him in the hog fat condition most show dogs need to be in.
However I still brag, as I was asked often, to put weight on him so he could clean up the ribbons, also he was tracked down by a Stafford show judge in Wales, I'm in Luton, to be asked if I would allow him to be used for stud as he was in his opinion, one of the few decent dogs about in the country, kc registered at least!

My Staffie cross is 15 and has dementia (on meds). Although there are days when it takes her a while to locate the water dish, she can still vault lightly onto the settee; and when summoned to the kitchen for food still trots down the corridor on puppy feet and with tail wagging.

Aw beautiful! What meds is she on? I ask cos my bullie just got put on Aktivait for possible dementia and she's improved dramatically. I know it's a food supplement not a drug as such and further down the line, she may need something 'stronger'. She's 10 and a half.
