Coronation Street - Too many things happening off screen
Hi,
Not sure if its lazy writing, or a cut back on location shots - but just lately too many things have been happening off screen

Tracy's Trial
Johns Psychiatric unit stint
The baby swap photoshoot
Ashley's funeral
Gary's Army life
There are probably loads more too.... |

I agree! Seems like the writers are doing too many stories and can't keep up with locations for them all!

Now you mention it, it does seem that way. Maybe the number of location shots have had to be reduced so they can catch up with filming as the tram crash took a record amount of time to film? Also a huge amount was spent last year on the factory explosion/tram crash, so maybe funds are tight too?

I agree with the OP and I'd add one more to the list- Sophie skipping college. All we know is that it's happening and Sian is getting upset about it. We really need some idea of how long it's been going on

It was fine to shown Gary's Army life off the show IMO - i mean, it got it's own spin off etc and we saw the effect it has on the parents.
The less Tracy the better IMO. The stuff like John etc, was most likely to give the actor a break since he's been in quite a big storyline + allowing us to see it from the POV of fiz. Ashley's funeral i will agree with - but in the long run, it hasn't effected anything - unlike Molly's funeral. |

I don't think we needed to see Tracy's trial or the baby swap photo shoot.
As for the funerals, it was poor that Ashley didn't get one, but the decision was understandable given that there was another big funeral the next day. I don't think we were ever going to see Gary in Afghanistan as part of the main show. It just wouldn't have slotted in. John's stint in the psychiatric unit is probably intended to give Graeme Hawley a break, which is why we haven't seen him. |

The thing is, would we have gained anything by seeing those scenes?
Soap trials/court cases are odd things, especially when most people know the verdict. So I guess it was just best to get that plot point out of the way rather than labour on it. Likewise with the other points (apart from John, who must be taking a break from the show at the moment), would we have gained anything from seeing them happen? Probably not. |

I agree with the last few posters regarding John's stint in rehab. The actor has been at the forefront, or at the very least damn near it, for so long now. This is probably the only believable way they could give him a break.
I agree about the Sophie thing. Although there have been hints that Sophie is going off the rails, it amounted to a few scenes if her buying alcohol, the college thing should have been set up better. |

They're just two weeks ahead of what airs on TV, you could cut them a little slack for not shooting scenes that arent really needed

Yip I see OP's point - I was surprised that Ashley's funeral was skipped over, and I also agree that Sophie skipping college has just come about without any build up. To be honest i hadn't even remembered she was at college. We never see her there. Some locations are totally missed yet we get an overdose of others like Hope in the hospital (not that I mind those scenes).

I think the problem is, there are a lot of storylines going on at the moment and the writers physically don't have time to include them all whilst continuing the storylines. The Stapemeister naturally deserves a break, we really did not need more of grinning Toxic and Dreary and these are little things that can just be retold - dreary and toxic were hardly gonna keep the news to themself!

You're all spot on.
What we need is Gail to date another murderer. I think it's almost been a year so come on Corrie writers. |

I thought it was more like six weeks. Some outdoor scenes this week had snow falling, which hasn't happened for quite a few weeks now.

Tracy should have ALL her scenes offscreen.
