WDTV Live Hub - file selection
Hi. I'm considering getting a media player with hard drive, the WDTV Live Hub in particular. My question is regarding the selection of files. Can you, as with a DVD player, select a file by pressing, say, 475 on the remote followed by 'play'?
Plus (and I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case), once a video file has been played to the end, does the next file start playing automatically? Many thanks. |

Thanks rottweiler. I'm concerned about possibly having to scroll through lots of files to get to the one I want. If I had, say, 1000 video files on the drive, could I get to file number 325 just by pressing 325/play on the remote?

The answer is no to both your questions. It does have quite good sorting and filtering options though that might make up for it.
I bought one of these last week, and have returned it today mainly because every time you turn it on it spends at least an hour compiling a media library by scanning the local drive and all network shares for media. Obviously this period will vary depending on how many files you have, but there are reports on the WD forums about this process never ending for some people. During this complation period the device is pretty unusable, as anything you try to play constantly stutters and stammers, and features such as the file sorting don't work. You can switch this feature off, but when I tried it I couldn't find a way to make it see any files on the internal drive or the network at all. Apparently it is designed to never be switched off! Imo It's one of those devices that you either have to really commit to using and change the way you live to adapt to it, or give it a miss. |

have you got a xbox 360 or PS 3 ?
Just get an ethernet NAS hard drive . World Edition 2 is ideal , and the games console will play them just hook the hard drive up to the router and the whole house can tap into it Divx files are awesome |

Thanks all, dohboy in particular. My Hub arrives in a day or two, I'll have to see whether I can live with it or not.
