Despite saying on their website that they give the same deals or better as new customers for upgrades that's just not true. Today is the day I am eligible for an upgrade. No Desire in the list and my second choice, the N8 is selling for £99 on a £25/month contract. i can get it free in the Nokia online shop, on Vodafone with 3 times as many minutes for £25/month.
If I buy from there the only downside is I lose my number but that is a small price to pay.

Vodafone are usually really flexible with upgrades.
Give Retentions a call and see if they'll match the offer you've seen. If they won't play ball, asking for your PAC code normally does the trick.

If they DO offer you a deal, just make sure you get an email confirmation of it. A couple of years ago I agreed to an upgrade but when the details came through it was completely wrong.
I had to get the Web Relations Team to sort it all out... they're very helpful.

Whenever I upgrade my Vodafone contract, it always seems too good to be true, so I make a habit of calling customer services straight back to check if what is on the system matches with what I have been told I'm getting - it not always is, but they always sort it in the end.

I reccommend you scour the web for the best possible deal on the phone you want and tell Vodafone you want your PAC code (don't even mention upgrades - choose 'thinking of leaving us' from the switchboard). They'll put you through to disconnections.

When they ask why you're leaving quote the deal and you will get the best deal Vodafone can offer. If you are not happy, maintain you want your PAC code (it means nothing unless you give is to another phone company to transfer the number - it will simply expire and nothing will happen if you don't do that).

Expect a phonecall from Vodafone within a couple of days with a better deal.

If you're still not happy, consider the deal you quoted in the first place. Just be a bit wary of cashback deals, some of them can be a pain.
