HDR-T2 Media server

I was dissapointed to see the DLNA server omitted from the latest firmware, I'd like to stream between two HDR T2s.

Was this functionality definitely on the cards, or is it just wish-list like having a legible clock?

Was it in the private beta some received in January?

Just tring to work out if this feature is at all likely...

Thanks in advance!

I understand it was in the beta at some point so I think it is still quite likely but I have no idea why it was removed.

It wasn't in the Beta firmware I received.

Posted in the other thread a question about this feature as it is the one that I am looking forward to.

Being able to watch recordings in other rooms via my home LAN is a real plus point for me.

From: http://www.pvrjunction.co.uk/humax-u...eeviewhd-pvrs/

"In addition, the same software update will also enable the HD PVR to act as a server, and thereby allowing users to watch TV recordings made on the HDR-Fox from other connected Humax devices around the home."

This was when the TV Portal was unveiled at the IBC conference in Sept 2010, so must surely have come from Humax themselves. Of course, things change.

Thanks, that's useful to know. Hopefully it may appear soon.

Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Let me explain, I was fortunate enough to be picked for the famous TV Portal trail in Dec last year which was an upgrade to software version 1.02.02, aside from the TV Portal addition, the option for 'Content Share' was in the internet setting menu, after this was turned on my Windows 7 laptop & Windows XP desktop were then able to play all TV recording from my HDR Fox-t2 on my PC's ( with the addition of the Elecard codec plugin).

I have since done the OTA update to 1.02.07, but if anything this has decreased my Hummy's functionality, the 'Content Share' has gone so was then not able to watch TV shows from the Hummy on any PC

I then went back to software version 1.02.02 and got the 'Content Share' menu back but now cannot view files on any PC, I can see the Hummy in Windows media player and sharing IS setup correctly with Media streaming turned on but I cannot play files still. It's a mystery to me

The TV Portal issue is not important to me (that can wait for another thread) but this is puzzling me & wondered if anyone else has had this issue??

Have you tried a factory reset after going back to the older firmware?

Even if you do it has been noticed that a factory reset doesn't reset everything, so potentially the update could have made a setting change that you can't change back causing a problem.

Shame that this was in the early Beta but not in the current version. Just bought a DLNA compatible Samsung LED TV for one of our other rooms, it would be great to be able to stream from the Hummy to it.

Should mean that me and the Mrs can watch our own recordings at the same time.

I have tried a Factory default setting, but all this does is remove all the settings but still remains at software version 1.02.02. Is there a way of going back to an earlier software version?

This is now very frustrating and tantalising, I can see the Humax box in the network map in both Windows & and Windows XP and have selected everything to share, but when trying to select any media to play on the PC's I get an error message telling that no media is set to share. As i said in my original post, this was possible until I upgraded to software version 1.02.07. Very frustrating.

Another option I have considered is to install Nero 10 and use this as a media hub to watch Humax media on PC's, has anyone had any experiences of using Nero for this purpose?

What could of happened is that the latest firmware encrypted the recordings -either the existing ones or the ones you did after upgrading. So rolling back to an earlier firmware may bring back the streaming option , but if the content is encrypted it won't stream?? - just a wild theory...

Have we had any promises from Humax regarding this feature. If it was present now, I'd buy the box tonight, and start saving £80/year electricity on my Myth TV box!

Me too. With developments on the FOXSAT I'm veering towards that but would love this avoiding the extra cable I need for satellite. I can live without streaming to another room for a while but would be good to know it's on the way in the next 6 months or so say.

I don't think we can expect network streaming of Freeview programmes from the HDR T2, but we should get DLNA media server capabilities at some point i.e. browse and play recordings stored on the HDR on another DNLA-capable device (e.g. another Humax HD box). I thought this was supposed to be in the upgrade with the portal, but sadly it seems to have been dropped. I really do hope it isn't dropped for good!!!

Emphasis is mine. To me, the term 'recordings' means recordings of Freeview programmes.

Yes, sorry my mind went off at a bit of a silly tangent there, I thought people were suggesting that the HDR might stream a live Freeview broadcast across the network. This is what I was saying we probably wouldn't get, but the more I think about it the more daft the idea seems anyway, why would you want to stream a freeview broadcast to another room when you could just pick up a cheap STB for less than 30 quid!?

I'll get my coat...

An aerial connection might not be available but a network might be. I'm more interested in streaming recorded content to PC/XBMC in the bedroom to be honest but live could be handy also I guess. Can do this currently with my Vu+ sat box and my 11 year old Tivo which my next box purchase hopes to replace :-|

Little difference between a live stream, and a recorded one with chase play only a few seconds behind - I would think.
