Tough one. In a musical sense NO. But that doesn't mean she won't be.
To her fans YES, that's understandable i mean people who are fans of Gareth Gates probally think of him as a legend. |

i doubt they do, she has done more for music than probably any other popstar over the course of her own 12 yr career and no one who has since been able to match her i know alot of people might say gaga but lets get realistic she has only had 1 album plus the re-release and from that she has put herself on a huge pedestal not to say she will fail just think we should wait to see what happens with gaga to even dare compare them both, there is enough room for them both to be legends only gaga has a long way to go to even come near to britneys level, and everyone knows shes a pop icon/legend whenever the press mention her they kinda state that
If they can both keep going for about 10 albums then maybe. |

No
She is a very lucky girl in that she came out at just the right time and blew up worldwide and despite having longevity and lots of really great pop songs she has very little talent and her voice is border line tolerable live. In my book a legand hasslot of talent to go along with their fame like Michael Jackson or David Bowie. |

I agree Britney just got very lucky. Out of all the singles she has had I would only include three of them at most of being memorable. The rest are easy to forget. Even Billie Piper had better songs tbh.

I swear your obsessed with GaGa, you bring her up in every thread. And no GaGa is not a legend. Yet, the same as Britney isn't yet.
If they can both keep going for about 10 albums then maybe. |

can't argue with the facts, if u need more just ask
Britney Spears has officially sold over 100 million records, all being certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Her debut album …Baby One More Time sold more that 28 million copies within a year and her 2nd album Oops!… I Did It Again sold over 20 million copies and debuted at #1 with sales of 1,319,193 million in the 1st week. Britney also became an international pop culture icon immediately after her career was launched and is the best selling female artist of the 2000s, as well as the 5th overall. Britney joins the ranks of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey who have also sold over 100 million albums within their careers. |

Like I said in the other thread;
Britney is a legend within pop culture, not musically. Her music is a career, the soundtrack to her personal life which is where she received the most notoriety. She is fame personified, really. The success and the tragedy. She will no doubt be forever associated with her public breakdown, but she will be remembered...that is what makes her a legend. Her musical legacy is kind of irrelevant. |

thats hardly a reason to not be a legend now is it, if that was the case we would have very little amount of legends
If she isn't going to sing live then she shouldn't be on the stage charging over-inflated prices to idiots who are easily pleased. |

It doesn't matter if you like her or not, you'll definitely remember her name forever, so yeah, she probably is a "legend"

not really she has sold over 100m records yet you think she wont be remembered for her career but more for the breakdown may i remind you she is the biggest selling femaile artist of the 00's and that counts for alot more her breakdown may define her as a very strong character but not define her career
Way to make a thread, bash anyone who dares to disagree with your opinion and then get picky with someone who is actually agreeing with you. The way you and a few others are carrying on in here is not exactly doing much good for the fanbases reputation. Please for the love of god learn how to write coherent English. |

her legacy
Legacy
Spears's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Spears became an international pop culture icon immediately after launching her recording career. Rolling Stone magazine wrote: "One of the most controversial and successful female vocalists of the 21st century," she "spearheaded the rise of post-millennial teen pop ... Spears early on cultivated a mixture of innocence and experience that broke the bank".[159] She is listed by the Guinness World Records as having the "Best-selling album by a teenage solo artist" for her debut album ...Baby One More Time which sold over thirteen million copies in the United States.[160] Melissa Ruggieri of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported, "She's also marked for being the best-selling teenage artist. Before she turned 20 in 2001, Spears sold more than 37 million albums worldwide".[161] Barbara Ellen of The Observer has reported: "Spears is famously one of the 'oldest' teenagers pop has ever produced, almost middle aged in terms of focus and determination. Many 19-year-olds haven't even started working by that age, whereas Britney, a former Mouseketeer, was that most unusual and volatile of American phenomena — a child with a full-time career. While other little girls were putting posters on their walls, Britney was wanting to be the poster on the wall. Whereas other children develop at their own pace, Britney was developing at a pace set by the ferociously competitive American entertainment industry".[162] 'Britney Spears' has been Yahoo!'s most popular search term for the last four consecutive years, seven times in total.[163] Spears was named as Most Searched Person in the Guinness World Records book edition 2007 and 2009. Spears has also become a major influence among many new artists, including Kristinia DeBarge,[164] Lady Gaga,[165] Little Boots,[166] Selena Gomez & The Scene,[167] Pixie Lott[168] and Miley Cyrus who has cited Spears as one of her biggest inspirations and has also referenced Spears in her hit song "Party in the U.S.A.".[169][170] Bebo Norman wrote a song about Spears, called "Britney", which was released as a single. Boy band Busted also wrote a song about Spears called "Britney", which was on their debut album.[171] She is also mentioned in P!nk's song "Don't Let Me Get Me". Richard Cheese called Britney Spears "a remarkable recording artist" and also went on to say that she was "versatile" and what the industry calls an "artist". People magazine and MTV reported that October 1, 2008, the Bronx's John Philip Sousa Middle School, named their music studio in honor of Britney Spears.[172] Spears herself was present during the ceremony and donated $10,000 to the school's music program.[173] |

This is a problem that many Britney fans seem to have. It's not all about numbers. Sales and chart positions do not equate to much more than what it says on the tin - she's popular.
