It shows how popular JLO was around the 99 to 2005 period. She hasn't had a hit since 2005.

I was shocked by Madonna being so low.

Madonna's true success and sales come from Europe. America has never really been a big place for her since the very early 90s.

I'm more surprised Christina is so high. She hasn't had a successful single out there since Beautiful. I guess it goes to show that sales at the beginning of the decade were perhaps much stronger than at the end of it. Hence why J Lo is also so high as she was constantly having USA Number 1 singles throughout 1999, 2000 and 2001.

A list like this is irrelevant if you don't tell us what it's based on

Lady Gaga #2 even though she's only been around one year! Wow!

Except what is this based on? Most Billboard charts include airplay, so it's largely up to radio stations what does well, and generic radio-friendly songs tend to benefit.

Why is the US chart relevant to anyone in the UK? Just asking. It's virtually all the same sounding R&B crap that MTV his spewing out 24 hours a day now there's no UK music programming any more.

Yes, this chart is based on combined sales and airplay if it's like their other lists. Airplay has a real biasing effect on who gets to the top. At least with sales you know when someone is truly popular, at least with people who actually buy music .

Well clearly it's not based on singing ability, or income.

I'm guessing it's not sales/airplay either because Gaga surely couldn't have had more hits and sold more than all of the others over the space of a decade...in two years?!

Can't be genuine. How is Katy Perry not on this list? Shes had five massive songs over the past ten years (California Gurls, Hot N Cold, Teenage Dream, Firework and I Kissed A Girl). Surely she would chart in the top 25, at least above not so substantial acts likr Ciara!

How could Nelly Furtado be so low? Lower than Ciara? She was massive. Loose sold 10 Million and was the best selling album of 2006-2007. I guess if it is true, her success clearly came from outside the US.

Good point.
That is what has me baffled.

Now quite sure how 'real' the list actually is ... but I have to say the top 3 are definitely strong contenders BUT in actual fact Britney Spears should definitely be #1 without doubt.

If the list title is truly 'singers' that insinuates vocal ability and in that case the listmaker is confused.

I did a quick search of the Billboard website and couldn't find this list. It's not a very good site though. Google just kept turning up posts of this list on fansite forums and blogs.

Alicia Keys being above Mariah Carey is ridiculous, but I assume this is all centered on sales.
This is 2000 - 2010, so I would have thought Mariah's Emancipation of Mimi would have put her higher up.
