HD7 browsing is very slick.

Browsing is pretty great on all large-screen devices. Examples include iPhone 4, HTC HD7, Samsung Nexus S. Browser was probably the weakest part of Symbian. If it weren't for that, could have clung on to my old phone for another year.

Pocketnow.com have a video comparing browser performance on 3 platforms: iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7.

I love using Opera Mini on the Motorola Defy.

Two touches to get onto Digital spy, although it can take a few touches to get page 3+ of a thread as the numbers are so small.

But flicking the page up and it's like a slot reel spinning around. Just what I wanted for viewing the net while away from home.

No need for Itunes or other Apple bloat.

The Iphones browsing is unrivaled I have tried Samsung's on Androids and Sony Ericssons.

I also tried alternative browsers for the Iphone and found them just as frustrating. The only downside is no flash or java support however I can view most websites great.

Simplicity, speed, usability that's where it wins. When I go on other phones it's fiddling navigating, less nice user interface, maybe not great build quality making it feel cheap (Samsung Galaxy as an example).

I use to hate touch screen phones and still do. However I tried the Iphone 3GS a few years back, got an Ipod touch and now Iphone 4 and never went back. I never even notice it's touch screen just a quality product.

Blackberrys on the internet would annoy me due to there wide and small screens.

Opera Mobile is good but still in beta.
I'm not sure about Firefox but will give it a blast when it launches soon on Android.

I've tried all the major smartphone platforms. iPhone and most decent sized screen Android phone are all great for web browsing. Don't go for a tiny Android device, you'll end up having to scroll round the screen or zoom.

Web browsing on newer Symbian devices with big screens is not bad. IMO web browsing on most BlackBerry smartphones is awful.

You might also check out the browsers on the PalmPre and on various Windows Phone 7 devices as well, they've look pretty good, but I've not used them extensively.

Screen size is the let down on them all, only good for a quick browse really. My lads W7 is extremely smooth in use though I have to say.

I use the Dell Streak which is either a large phone or small tab (still not decided which) but perfect for browsing.

There's one key thing iPhone doesn't have, its called Flash.

With a good mid-high end android phone you'll be fine.

Is it really such a "key thing" now, especially on a mobile device? You don't need it for iPlayer, you don't need it for YouTube, plus various other video sites also now offer a non-Flash version.

I don't miss Flash when browsing on my iPhone.

Hell, I rarely use Flash on my PC. I don't play browser games, I block all adverts, and I despise Flash-based websites. The only useful thing for Flash is for videos, but it's not the king anymore.

I have. Browsing is good. The phone is easily fast enough, and the 800x480 screen is large enough. Generally you need to turn the screen to landscape, and sometimes you need to zoom in so the content part fills the screen (and lose the borders that are usually navigation, adverts or just wasted space).

Agreed. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've visited a site on my phone recently that needed flash, and even that was something I could just check later.

The vast majority of quality websites are realising that an increasing amount of web traffic is coming from mobile devices like smartphones and so they're creating mobile optimised sites.
