Corrie - Xin disappointment.
I was looking forward to Xin joining the Street. The Street's first Chinese character and from what her first scenes are supposed to be like, a comedic character.
But after reading the rumours on DS, I'm disappointed - is she really going to marry to stay in the country? I mean -? Why can't we have foreign residents for once who aren't illegal?? This has happened before with soaps, I'm sure, and it's not the first time CS has had an illegal immigrant either. I hope these rumours really are just rumours, and not true :/. |

Yeah I'm disappointed too. I'm always interested in a new character but it's just going to be same old same old.
I think Inside Soap confirmed the rumours are true  |

Dev, Wiki and Uncle Umed in Corrie?
Zainab, Grace and Masood in EE? Louise in Emmerdale? Still though, this annoys me  I thought she was gonna be a blast, now we've got a bloody sham wedding to look forward to. |

That was sarcasm, as I was talking about Coronation Street and you go off talking about other soaps.

thats a pretty stupid storyline, the chinese community have been here for years so theres 5-6 or more gens of chinese born that would have made more sense to explore with.

It's flipping Manchester, why does a Chinese character need to be illegal?! We are very multi cultural over here, just like any big city! It annoys me when soaps seem to think 'we need a xxxxx' (insert Nationality / disability / sexual preference) and then they go ahead and write a storyline based entirely on that (and usually stereotypes of that) rather than looking past that and to their actual character.

Didn't they do a similar story line with Orchid (Our Kid as Kirk called her) by marrying Fred and staying in the country? Or was she after his money. Was she Thai?

I don't really understand what the fuss is? I think it could make for an interesting storyline, and it's good to see newcomers doing something ( Frank, Xin)

If true (lets not forget thid is a newspaper story) it limits the amount of time Xin has on the street
