I'm glad if it's true - I just hope they give her a happier storyline this time around.

im really pleased but when she returns after a year i really hope they give Ronnie happier storylines and stop the constant misery, was hoping Sam would change her mind as shes close to scott maslen and rita simmons so thats probably what made her re-think

Sam again
Baby-row Womack coming back

By Dan Wootton, Showbiz Editor
February 6, 2011

IT'S the return of the Womack - EastEnders star Samantha is planning a shock comeback just months after she quit over the dead baby swap plot.

The News of the World can exclusively reveal that soap bosses have only written her character Ronnie Mitchell out of the show for 12 months.

The actress, who said the recent controversial storyline made her feel sick, has told bosses that she wants to go back to the show.

Last night, a top BBC source told us: "Sam went through a very difficult few weeks during the filming and airing of the baby swap plot.

"Everything got a bit too much for her and she said things that, on reflection, she now doesn't agree with.

I felt ill having to portray it. It was the most horrific four weeks of my life

"Sam stood up to speak at a meeting of the cast and producers to make it clear she is committed to the soap in the long-term and doesn't harbour any grudges.

"She has a lot going on in her life and wants to focus on other priorities for a year, then she'll return."

Sam's return has been encouraged by her on-screen husband Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning.

He remains committed to Enders and has privately urged the 38-year-old mum to come back after taking time off.

Our source added: "The plot will have Jack and Ronnie separating when Sam is on her break.

"However, the plan is to bring them back together."

But Sam's decision will stun the 13,000 furious fans who complained about the harrowing baby drama after learning of her unhappiness.

The storyline, which saw Ronnie swap Kat's healthy baby Tommy with her dead baby James, engulfed the BBC in a major scandal.

Sam said of the storyline: "I felt ill having to portray it. It was the most horrific four weeks of my life."

Sam resigned in November after finding out about the plot and is due to finish in May.

But she could be back as early as April 2012.

The source said: "Ronnie's return will be a huge ratings boost so the producers are working towards that."
I hope this is true but I'm not sure Sam would be working towards a date to return just yet given that she hasn't seen what's out there. Also I don't think Sam should feel bad about what she said about the cot death storyline and her leaving seemingly igniting the baby swap controversy. IMO the writers had gone too far. They were boardering on turning EE in to one of those unrealistic American soaps and needed to be reigned in.

Also I hope that if it is true the writers have learnt their lesson about piling on the baby grief with her. Ronnie desperately needs a new direction but I'm not sure how that can be achieved now without giving Ronnie a baby in the first place. I really hope they don't go down the 'infertile' route just so that they don't have to deal with Ronnie wanting a baby anymore.

If this is true, it is fantastic news.
So happy about this. Ronnie is a great character and Sam is a brilliant actress.

Why have they nicknamed her "Baby-row Womack"?

I suspected this might have been the case since all reports mentioned she was 'taking a break' or 'taking time out' from the show.

Didn't Sam want the break to focus on family, which would not indicate her "looking around for other work". The one thing about Eastenders is that it provides a steady, decent income for her. She negotiated apparantly, a great deal with a few longer holidays (why we keep seeing Ronnie running off). Why would she leave that to do drama (which she has already done), comedy (which she has already done) or theatre (already done), when that work is irregular and generally one off pieces. Why do you think Jessie returned.

As for her returning, it's possible. If they write her going to a mental institution/ prison (hard to tell given the poor, inconsistent writing on Ronnies side recently), then they could write her having told Jack and Roxy to not visit, but then change her mind a year later close to her release. We could then see her try to make amends with everyone.

I really hope we don't see Ronnie going in to a mental insitution for a year though, as I think she's more grief stricken than 'mental'. Yes the baby swap would suggest she's lost the plot, but her actions seem to show she knows what she's done. It's not like she's convinced herself that Tommy is James. She knows she lost her mind after she found James dead and she's only keeping Tommy now because she doesn't have the strength to tell the truth.

So I hope we see her go off somewhere saying that she needs time to clear her head, but I think it's doubtful they'd do this as it doesn't deal with the fact she's committed a crime. I guess we could also have her go to prison for a year with Jack standing by her and saying she was out of her mind with grief but the law stating that she snatched a child and must pay.

I'm not sure I totally buy that Sam's only leaving to spend more time with her kids though as she had 6 weeks off last summer to spend with them and apparently she had an extra 2 weeks, on top of the 2 everybody gets off, at Christmas. That's a lot of time off for somebody on her salary and yes she may have early mornings and late nights when they are filming but Ronnie really hasn't been in EastEnders very much since the middle of last year. Even now when Ronnie is supposed to be part of a huge storyline we have seen her for a few scenes and then she disappears for like 3/4 episodes, which is stiking when you compare it with how much of Kat we have had since the New Year.

I think the best way to come back in 2012 is with a baby! That is the only way to change course with Ronnie.

Maybe she'll get pregnant with triplets - one for each child she lost. Either way, if this is true I hope she comes back with a baby.
