despite not having an album released yet, she has still put out two of arguably the best singles from a British female this year.

Agree/disagree?

It is WAY too soon for her to be nominated for British Female!

I would agree, but it's better for her she doesn't I think. She knows she is regarded highly and doesn't have to sell out to the academy.

I disagree, if she's going to get nominated she should be nominated next year after the album is released.

She's a former BRITs school graduate, I'd expect her to be featured heavily on the shortlist next year.

this year wpuld have been way too early, especially when her album hasn't even been released yet it would be unfair to cast the decision from 2 singles.

On A Mission is good, but Lights On is pure shit.

I don't think she's worth it.

I like the singles released so far. The B-side to Katy on a Mission, Louder is also a good song.

She's done a great job of taking a dubstep-ish sound and making it pop chart friendly (and I mean that in the best possible way). All that said I don't think anyone should be winnng awards (even critics choice introducing type awards) on the back of a few singles. We'll see when her album comes out.

I would apply that to Jessie J and The Vaccines as well. Much as I love the Vaccines two singles and a good demo do not deserve an award. As has allready been said, she's a Brit School graduate, though i'm sure Katy B will follow in the tradition of Jessie J, Kate Nash and Adele in winning a Brit in future and if she releases a good album it'll be well deserved.

I sort of do and don't agree, I was surpirsed not to see her top any critics choice polls and she's better than jessie j from what i've heard so far

however i judge an artist by their albums, not their singles, so to give her a best female nom based on 3 songs is silly.. its like when i see appreciation threads on here for artists that have only released a couple songs... i personally loved katy on a mission and louder... but lights out is horrific.

I love all three of them personally. All quite different types of songs.

I love dubstep but cannot see the appeal in this girl whatsoever.

great post neel, i have to agree.

'katy on a mission' grew on me, i didnt like 'lights on' either but that also proved to be a grower... i like her, i like her singing voice...

Are there any young British female singers who haven't been to Brit School?!

I think its very much a dub stepISH pop sound so that kind of makes sense.

Her music certainly isn't dubstep, I can hear as much of a garage influence as I can dubstep if i'm honest.

To be 100% honest I don't have a clue.

I've always associated it more with Reggae, Ragga and D'n'b, but i don't say that from any real position of knowledge, I just kind of assumed.

UK Garage is a big gaping hole in terms of my musical awareness.

Nah. I think garage is more connected to funk/funky house, and dubstep heavier stuff.

And expect more dubstep influences, her record is being produced by the man who brought out possibly the best ever full length commercial dubstep record yet, Benga.

I don't think she should be nominated this year, next year or any other year. Nor do I believe her singles are two of the best this year by a British artist.
