HTC Desire app question
Surfer Rosa

This is probably something really obvious, and I have only had my phone for a few days but it's really baffling me. I've downloaded a couple of apps from the Android Market, but for the life of me cannot locate them on my phone? They are both 100% downloaded but don't seem to be installing automatically, which I'm sure should be the case.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks

It may depend on the Android or skin version, but in my HD there would be an icon in the top status bar. Swipe down from the top to open the status bar, and it should say that the app was installed and let you run it from there. Otherwise, it should be on the all-apps list which is sorted by name.

Do you mean the in-phone Market app, or the desktop browser Market?

I've been keeping an eye on the 'downloading' icon on the status bar, when it gets to 100% the icon vanishes and nothing really happens. I'm downloading via the in-phone Market.

At the bottom of the touch screen either press the upward arrow on the left of the phone button and the app should be in the list of apps displayed, or press the plus symbol to the right and choose 'app' and then scroll through the list and tap on it to add it to your current homepage.

It does sound like something didn't work. I'd try a different app. The store is supposed to filter out apps that your phone won't support, but maybe you got unlucky and hit one it got wrong.

First of all what phone do you have and what OS?

I have a HTC Desire but try this anyway:

Bottom left of the screen is an up arrow, clicking this brings up the " All Apps " menu. Scan through this list and you should find the app or apps you have downloaded.

If you are absolutely sure the app(s) have downloaded try this instead:

(again this is from a HTC Desire perspective) Press menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications

At this point you are presented 4 options. Downloaded, Running, All and On SD Card. Browse through them and try to locate the app(s) you think downloaded 100%.

If the app or apps are NOT in any of those options then the app(s) have NOT downloaded successfully.

You can also open the Android Market and go to My Apps, from here you can see a list of all the apps you have downloaded and have installed.

You won't see anything you have uninstalled but if you feel the apps are on the phone then they will be in this list and one of the options you can access is to open/run the app from within that list.

Hope this helps.

My laptop is currently in the shop for repair so just need to know If I download apps not from the market place can I install these straight from the phone or is a pc required? I assume the apps I would be getting would be cab or exe files? Also is it possible to download and unpack rar files direct on the phone. This is the HTC Desire HD I am talking about.

They are .APK files. If you can get one onto your phone, there are apps which will install it for you. I have used:
https://market.android.com/details?i...life.installer

It needs to be installed in the usual way first, of course. A link on that page should send it to your phone directly.
