Radio 1 S&M edit
Radio 1 have just played a song called "Come On" by Rihanna.
Well, I'm just joking actually. It's just the new name they've given to S&M because they can't even say the name of the song on daytime radio. The radio edit for those that haven't heard it blanks out "sex", "chains", "whips" and the "S S S & M M M" bits. Is the song really that bad?! It's pretty dirty but its not that dirty! |

it's hilarious if it's the first time you've heard it
"**blank** in the air, i don't care i love the smell of it" that could literally mean anything including mcdonalds down the street

If any child understands what S&M means, or puts together "chains and whips" with sex, that's bad parenting.

I'd rather they just not play it if they're going to edit half the words out.

The letters S and M should also be removed from the alphabet. We shouldn't be exposing our children to such filth.

I just listened to the preview on the radio one website, sex, chains and whips were all still in the song?

Completely nonsensical and hypocritical of Radio 1 to do this.
When they were happy to play Rihanna asking if her Rude Boy could 'get it up', and give it to her like 'boom boom boom'! Such heavy editing of S&M seems unwarranted. SMH

Dear Radio 1,
I am emailing you with my concern about your treatment of Rihanna's latest single 'S&M'. You have renamed it to 'Come On', this is going to drastically reduce the sales of the song as people are going to search for it on iTunes, and find that it is does not exist. Rihanna has said herself that for the songs release, it is to be interpreted as 'Scandals & Media', just like the music video. I find it rather offensive that you have edited out the lines 'sex in the air', and 's s s & m m m', when you continue to play other songs with equally suggestive lyrics. For your viewership, it just comes off as desparate. 'Oh yes, we're all prim and proper here, no suggestion or euphemisms in the songs we play at all'. It seems that you're just going along with all the controversy about the songs video release and covering your own back. How is it, that Lady Gaga's song 'Alejandro' got played on your station around its time of release, when the video featured Gaga simulating anal sex with several men on a bed? Surely you should have edited the song? Think of the irreparable damage it could have caused to the minds of young children. Young children who in fact do not listen to the radio and would not hear the song in the first place. So please Radio 1, stop being so prudish. No one is going to complain over a brief mention of 'sex'. |

90mins exactly into this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...es_06_02_2011/ That is ridiculous. You can still make out most of the lyrics as the censoring is off. What's the point in messing with the song?? And if they can show the title on music channels throughout the day (I saw the full video on MTV Hits at 9:55am this morning) then why can't they say it on the radio? It's censorship gone crazy. I blame the Daily Mail. |

Now it doesn't even make any sense. It could be about liking getting beaten up or liking the smell of something in the air could be about drug addiction - "I love the feeling you give to give". Rude Boy is far worse. I used to cringe listening to it when my family were in the room

This is the sort of thing I'd expect from a big American radio station, not a british one.
Listening to the version played on the chart show now. |
