So you are say two people who have had a far longer career than the vast majority of Hollyoaks cast are bad.

Nick Pickard has stayed with Hollyoaks because he is good, while Julie Buckfield is currently on her third tour of the Naked Truth just after finishing her 7th panto season in Cambridge, let alone receiving critical claim for her stage work like these Reviews And to boot this is her Acting CV. Not bad for someone you think is bad at acting.

Whether or not they've improved now, their is no denying the acting back then was atrocious!

Every actor improves in time - they may of been not so great at the time - and just because someones in a show or done lots of jobs, doesn't mean there by any means great.

Not only the but the OP chose posts from very early on of Hollyoaks as well, one being the third ever episode. Hollyoaks was Nick Pickards major part acting job as well at the time, and we all know how good Nick is now.

However you don't get lots of leading roles if you are not good, you fade very quickly like quite a few other ex-Hollyoaks cast members who struggle to get work after they leave. You only have to look at the careers of Jeremy Edwards, Davinia Taylor, Shebah Ronay, Brett O'Brien and Lisa Williams who were around the same time and how their post Hollyoaks careers have gone.

According to the website she gets "leading Guest Roles" which I'm not really sure are real things, it's not like we ever see promotion for a Julie Buckfield guest slot in a show is it? And her most recent acting accomplishment, Receptionist in Hustle? I bet the current cast must really look up to her accomplishments and dream of one day they too will be a "leading Guest star" or travel the country playing theatres of 200 in second rate productions.

The scenes posted by the OP truly were awful, back then she couldn't act, it's clear to see, what she can do now is irrelevant really, in HO she was crap, and it wasn't her very first role either, so chances are she was worse when she started (shudder.) I'm not sure whether Nick Pickard has truly improved or if Tony has basically just merged into Nick himself, so it's not easy to tell, if he played a different role in another show, it would be easier to properly compare.

Totally agree with previous poster, he was exactly like Ricky back then, I pray Ricky won't be around in 16 years, can't stand him lol

The crux of the matter is if you are really bad you find work dries up fairly quickly in acting like many of the former Hollyoaks cast have since leaving because they are terrible.

Besides you cannot judge though Julie Buckfield's acting as bad by a few clips if you haven't seen her act in the many other roles she has performed. Just because she has only done a few guest roles on TV since Hollyoaks doesn't mean anything anyhow since she mainly works in the theatre now like quite a few ex-soap stars do.

As for Hustle it was just a bit of work for her inbetween rehearsing for current tour of The Naked Truth and getting married. Even then she still managed a better Brummie accent than Angela Griffin did.

We finally know what Surfie wants, this era of Hollyoaks back...

What was it Phil Redmond did, take on board that the show was boring and soft and kill Natasha off. He said he did that because he wanted to impress the critics who said it was too soft and boring.

It's come along way since then... it was boring

Acting is bad there... but again, not as bad as liberty.

No I don't want that era back but it was far better than the total tripe Marquess served up. But are you really saying that 1998 to 2002 was boring. Even Hollyoaks from a few years ago is far superior to the stae Hollyoaks is in now.

I had the misfortune to sit through an episode recently and I couldn't believe how terrible Hollyoaks is now. There was nothing that makes me want to tune back in regularly as it was full of souless characters who didn't set the screen alight. Even Nick Pickard was acting like he was on auto-pilot and not putting in half the effort he once use too.
