Foxsat HDR Disk Space.

Hi,

Having set up my Foxsat HDR I have found that the unit is now reporting 7.9Gb of used disk space. Nothing has been recorded to disk.

I have carried out a factory reset but the used disk space has steadily increased to 7.9Gb over a 2 day period.

Is this normal?

Cheers

Sounds like that' could be the Buffer, as your watching live tv a buffer files created usually though its about 19 gig but that sounds like it could be that.

Ok it sure sounds like its the buffer! Perfectly normal then.

Phew. Glad to hear. I thought I had a sick Foxsat.

Cheers

If you're measuring space free on the HDR using the telnet or FTP interfaces, bear in mind that the ext3 filesystem by default reserves 5% of the space for the root user. The settop functions can use this space (as they run as root). du and similar will report 5% less space than there is actually available.

Thanks nowster,

Not too sure I grasp what you mean.

I was just wondering if i had a faulty Foxsat. Nothing recorded to disk but when I check in settings under HDD control it is now reporting 16.1Gb of used disk space. Seems alot to me when I have not recorded anything?

Cheers

But is has recorded, its ALWAYS recording.

There is a hidden file "0.ts" on the hard disk that contains the last few hours of TV you've watched, thats how come you can skip backwards when watching live TV. If you replace the firmware with the hacked one you can see it from your PC on a mapped drive.

Hi,

So just to confirm.

No media has been recorded to my Foxsat HDR. This is showing as 0% in media list.

Now when I go to HDD control the used disk space is showing 16.1GB used. This is perfectly normal as this accounts for the buffer and enables pausing of live tv rewind etc.

This information is coming from the Foxsat as I am not using hacked firmware or using telnet or FTP interfaces to measure free/used space.

Is this figure of 16.1GB of used disk space correct or am I missing something?

Cheers

Yep all entirely possible, it shouldn't get any bigger - the live recording buffer is a circular buffer, when it gets to the end it starts replacing the start.

Just start recording some stuff and forget that "lost" 16 Gb.
