He'll drink it all right if that's all he has.

Make sure you change it to keep it fresh and use a clean bowl.

Don't use chemicals to wash his bowls out.

He hated being left alone downstairs in his basket - so I foolishly took the basket upstairs in my room. He then whined to come up with me, which I let him for a bit, then down in his basket again...this went on all night. I'm knackered!!!
Is it cruel to be kind time and leave him downstairs??

Get him a crate and leave him in it for the night, taking him out for toilet purposes first.

Voodoo,is there room in your bedroom for bedding for him/her? I did this with my JR Scruffy. I put him in one of those travel carriers and gave him a teddy and left him in the corner of my bedroom. No problems after that. In the dark, just re-assure him you're there by talking out loud. The problem I had was trying to transfer him from the carrier to a crate as he got older. It cost me a small fortune buying bigger one's but he just won't swap. Now he has to crawl into his box, which makes me feel rotten but he's very happy and won't have it any other way! Oh, post a pic if you can. I'm feeling broody...

Actually I say basket - he's in a Morrison's green basket on it's side with a blanket, haven't got a basket yet. I have friends who tell me to leave him downstairs with a small light on and let him do cold turkey, but I feel so bad.
I gave him a small teddy - maybe he needs a bigger one....you'd think he was a baby!

This is a tried and tested method and it does work, eventually! Jr's are stubborn little buggers, and he'll test ya for a few nights. I gave up, as my Oh had to work which is why mine sleeps in my bedroom, although he has never been allowed to sleep with me or play on the bed. Whatever you do, I'm positive you'll get a happy outcome. Keep him on the milk too if you need, just start reducing it gradually. Here's a site with lots of advice on JR's.

As stud u like says, crate training is a good idea and worth doing from early on. It can come in useful like you wouldn;t believe later in the dog's life! Have a Google and see what you think.

Our late staffie was crate trained and when he had an unexpected leg injury (luxating patella), the fact he was already crate trained came into its own and helped him heal up way faster. Also it gave him his own 'den' andsomewhere to retreat to if things got too much! We kept it under the kitchen table. He loved his crate!

I would be a terrible dog owner, because if a puppy pulled a "I'm just a baby and i'm scared alone in the dark" i would surrender in a heartbeat and he would rule the house and be the boss of me in a week's time.

I was as daft as this when I first got my J/R cross home. I went to sleep one night and he was too little to get off the bed and did a poo on the bottom of the bed, so I built him little steps so he could get to his puppy pad and back.
Bailey will soon be 3 and he still sleeps under the duvet with me but now now just uses the dog flap if he needs to go out then comes back to bed.

He was fine!! It was his first time outside the house - I carried him in his towel as the vet is only up the road from home. He was shaking in the waiting room with 2 big dogs in the room. He was fine on the vet's table - biting the stethoscope haha. Strong heartbeat, injection done. Carried home and let him run up the garden path for the first time. I love him to bits and it's only day 2!!
Just had to endure wails and howls for 20 minutes - but resisted to go downstairs to him. JUst checked through the glass door - he's given up and is sleeping...for now anyway....!!!

He was fine, heard him about 4....left it till 5.30- looked through the glass door couldn't see him in the basket. The little bugger got through the barrier and was sleeping under the sofa! He woofed when I opened the door and then went NUTS and licked me to death. I kind of caved and lay on the dining room sofa and slept with him....it's getting there!
One question - how long does the nipping and biting last?

Hate to tell you this, but that will last for a while. He's only playing. Soon he'll start playing with the corner of your furniture and things, and possibly chewing on rugs and carpet and shoes. Anything he will get his puppy teeth on really. Protect what is really valuable to you. Have plenty of chew toys ready for him, and just like a baby, you can get a teething ring that you can cool for him at Pet stores or online. That'll keep him busy. I invested in an anti-chew spray, but tbh, it didn't work with mine, he still had a go at most things. Don't be afraid to tell him off. It's all worth it, I promise!

He already does chew everything - I'm going to get a puppy crate for when we go out and for night time. Did think it was cruel, but after reading online it makes them feel secure and I'll worry he'll fall down the stairs or bite through an electric wire. I'll make it super cosy and put it at the bottom of the shoe cupboard (without the door!!)

You need to open an account on something like Photobucket, then upload images from your computer so that they are online in your Photobucket account. Then you can link to the images in your post and we can all see your puppy!!
