Surely the Nielsen ratings are all bogus these days, as I watch 2 things that are on at the same time by the magic that is Sky+/BT Vision/Sky OnDemand/BBC iPlayer/Demand5/4oD/+1 etc....
I'm sure they even have this sort of technology in the US I would imagine there are loads who watch H5O live, and Revolution off-line, and the opposite. The only time that this isn't the case is when it is a premium cable network like HBO or Showtime as they rely on subscriptions rather than advertising, so whether you watch it live or on demand, they will still count you as a viewer. |

How many people watch (much/any) stuff live these days - I mostly watch 'topical' stuff like BBC Breakfast and News 'live', but much other stuff is pic'n'mix off the Sky+ planner recordings..
Sky+..........Create your own TV channel n'all. Can't see it being much different in the US either. There are ways around it of course, like having un-skipable adverts when you watch programmes online or product placement within the programmes themselves. But for now it’s the overnight ratings that really matter. |

The ratings for season 3 might not be spectacular, buy website TV by the Numbers seem to think Hawaii Five-O has a very good chance of getting picked up for a full 4th season as it’ll make it a stronger syndication opportunity.
Here’s their logic: Last season the Renew/Cancel Index adopted the rule of "If a show will be within one season of syndication at the end of this season, it will fall no further than a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation". Now, at least for CBS (and perhaps other nets later), I'm taking it up a notch. Since CBS is a well oiled syndication machine, and has shown that it will sacrifice low current ratings for the bounty (or even the potential bounty) that the syndication gods provide I am christening a new rule: If a CBS produced & aired scripted show reaches a third season it is certain to receive a fourth. That fourth season typically ensures at least the minimum number of episodes (~88) needed for stripped syndication. On that basis, I have moved both Hawaii Five-0 (already sold to TNT) and Blue Bloods to "certain to be renewed". Cue both doubting and relieved commenters! http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...and-it/151964/ |

Alex O'loughlin and Girlfriend Malia Jone have named their baby Boy as Lion O'Loughlin I think it has a nice flow to it. The more I say the name it grows on me and I like it more.

News that The Last Resort has been axed by ABC could act as a saving grace for Hawaii Five-0.
As I reported earlier in this thread, the Hawaii Five-0 production is being evicted from the building it has been using as soundstage and base next year. CBS were working with the state of Hawaii to find a new location that could meet the programmes needs, but the search so far has been unsuccessful. A problem as big as that when added to the programmes declining ratings could spell trouble for it’s future beyond this season, but now that The Last Resort will no longer be using the Diamond Head Studio I’m sure CBS will be seriously looking at it as a possible future base for the programme. |

This week Hawaii ratings are up with 9 million people watching and 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demagraphics. So hopefully fans are comeing back as they see this season is way better than season 2.

Looks like my prediction earlier in this thread was correct, Hawaii Five O production looks set to move to Honolulu’s Diamond Head Studios now that The Last Resort has been cancelled (and they’re being evicted from their current studios so they can be knocked down and re-built as apartments). It’s good news as the thought of the show possibly being made in Los Angles next season was an awful idea.

Wow that's my kind of evening.
I can't remember the last time I watched a multi-hour block on one channel.

Ha, yeah. Each episode may as well have a "brought to you by Microsoft" line at the start.

No big deal
Product placements are here to stay, that's how shows stay afloat.A lot of fans love the cool gadgets & don't mind their use in the show.Bones, Chuck & a few other shows have far more.It doesn't bother me at all.

I don't mind it in the background - if someone just happens to be using an iPhone or Windows phone or Galaxy S, or you see an Apple or Windows logo on a computer, etc.
What I don't like is when it's forced into the dialogue, especially in unrealistic ways as mentioned by LudwigVonDrake ("Bing it"). Warehouse 13 and, IIRC, White Collar both had rather annoying car product placement in their most recent seasons, with characters going out of their way to start talking about the nav system or entertainment system, in a way that did not fit with the characters or the rest of the dialogue and came across as an actual advert. |
