I am currently watching Hawaii Five O, with Jack Lord and James MacArthur, on CBS Action. I began to watch the opening episode of the remake when it was first aired on sky, but had to switch off after a few minutes. Perhaps I didn't give it a chance, but I have seen all of the original series' episodes and don't think, in my opinion, anyone would play the role of Steve McGarrett as competently as Jack Lord. The way in which the original was filmed just looks right; the advances in cameras et al, is too sophisticated for a series originally set in the late 60s. The new series looks 'wrong', too modern, if that makes sense. Also, to give each episode an Hawaiian title, gives it an unwarranted cosmopolitan feeling about the series. Possibly, had it not been a remake of such a classic series, and we had nothing to compare it to, I would have viewed it differently, but would still not have watched it, as it is not a genre I tend to devote viewing time to.
