It debuted and peaked at #18 - which isn't too bad but it's her first solo single to miss the Top 5, but I'll doubt she'll be too bothered in the grand scale of things.

It sold 96,455 copies (may even be over 100,000 now)
#81 (2,651 sold) #189 (1,042 sold) #156 (1,481 sold) #74 (3,733 sold) #63 (3,976 sold) #53 (5,850 sold) #26 (15,868 sold) #30 (18,237 sold) #18 (17,864 sold) + weeks after If everyone downloaded it on single week it would have been around 7/8 It's outsold these GA tracks 90,000 - Life Got Cold 85,000 - I Think We're Alone Now 75,000 - Wake Me Up 70,000 - See The Day 65,000 - Long Hot Summer 55,000 - Whole Lotta History EDIT: also it didn't debut at #18 it was hanging around the charts for 8 weeks before single release. |

Oh right. #18 is a bit shocking for someone like Cheryl Cole, but if it wasn't promoted as hard as the other singles then I guess that's understandable. It wasn't as instant as her other hits.
I don't like anything she's put out, I'm just curious about it because it was being bigged up on here and then that was it. Like you say, with her money I doubt she cares where it charts. How's the album doing? |

I don't think she was that bothered about it to be honest. It had minimal promotion and I think she was away the week it was released but I could be wrong. Either way it barely registered compared to her other releases. If she'd pushed it, it might have made top 10. I doubt she cares though. Apparently she was just in Italy getting paid £250,000 for an hours work
Not bad if you can get it.Man everybopdy these days blames everything on promotion. |

I wouldn't call 2 chats show, the royal variety (wich was the one of the only reason it climbed) loads of TV airplay and good spots on the Radio playlists a lack of promotion.

She's got about as much talent as Britney (some would argue even less than that), except without all the success behind her. What do you expect?

She has promoted all her singles -
Fight For This Love - X Factor, Cheryl Cole's Night In, T4, Children In Need, Brit Awards 3 Words - Cheryl Cole's Night In Parachute - Sport's Relief Promise This - Children In Need, X Factor, Alan Carr The Flood - Alan Carr, Royal Variety. The problem with The Flood was - Cheryl's management had planned to release The Flood as a Christmassy single. They heard Take That were releasing a song of the same name within 7 weeks of Christmas. They had to announce it before Take That did. But then when the album was released, some people bought it and then 2 months later whent the song was released most of the people who would have bought it on week release already had it. |

Hardly a flop considering her album has sold very well. Singles are there to promote the album, so it kept MLR in the top twenty over Christmas, thus enabling it to chock up those impressive Christmas period sales.
Chart positions do not define whether a single is a flop or not!

She has written more. She's a far better dancer. Britney shits on Cheryl. I don't want to come across rude but really, she does. ![]()

Oh fine, Cheryl fans trying to find excuses for the The Flood flop. The Flood flopped and for someone like Cheryl it flopped hard.
I don't care for the reasons - other artists don't get a percentage of the exposure and promotion that Cheryl and The Flood had. But really nice excuse - "oh it wasn't successful, but that's only because she wasn't bothered, otherwise it would have been a success". |

Lol, that release was a straight up FAIL.
![]() I'll give credit where credit is due though, that cosmetically enhanced clown did all she could with her lame-ass voice, but hey I guess when you struggle even to hold 1 note live, it's quite hard to promote a ballad... ![]() I love how this track was promoted as her 'belter about wreckage and disaster love' when in truth, it was a hot mess of a song. I still can't quite believe that she has been able to get away with having such a severe lack of talent, I guess that is where her delusional fanbase come in handy... |

Ballads are destined to fail, they have a narrow audience when compared to an upbeat track like Fight For This Love.

Imagine Beyonce or Alexandra Burke singing that song? they'd have really brought it to life. |

Not really if sung by a talented singer. The Flood was ruined by Cheryl's wishy washy weak vocals.
Imagine Beyonce or Alexandra Burke singing that song? they'd have really brought it to life. Saying that The Flood being released got some album sales and 100,000 singles sold isn't bad. I bet Nadine would love that figure. |

"The Silence" flopped because it was on the original version of the album as well as the re-release, and by the time that song was released the era was coming to an end and most people already had their copy of the album. No one will buy a song three times unless you're a hardcore fan that wants it to add to your collection. People already had it twice with it being on the album.

With Cole the record label has to spend alot of money in promotion for her singles to be successful, unless it is released while she is on X-factor - cheap promotion for her.Getting her up the top of the charts by promoting her heavily wouldn't get Universal returns on their investments at the moment. Not looking good for Cole at the moment in the UK at least.Don't think she'll be a hit with US listener's either even if she get's the US X-factor gig.Has Bubble burst ??? Her popularity has seemed to have taken a massive dive at least. She can still get very large 1 week sales from her hardcore fans but she seems to struggle after that now.
Don't think her hardcore fans thought much of this single even though, they even gave up on it. EDIT: I think I may have misunderstood what you meant when I read it the first time, hence the above text. |
