I had the HDMI sync problem last night while the box was recording. Not wanting to have to resort to power cycling the Humax, I tried fiddling with a few other things. Switching the TV to another input and back again didn't help.

What did work was pressing the vformat button to change the resolution of the video output on the HDMI (makes sense when you think about it). Once the HDMI is synced, just vformat again to get it back to 1080i or whatever you normally use (you can press vformat fairly rapidly a few times in succession to cycle through the different resolution options without it re-syncing at each one - that would be very tedious).

This definitely a change in the latest software update! I did not have this problem before the update (although I know others did), but I do now!

I havnt changed my setup and my Sony TV sync'd everytime it was powered on and the Humax brought out of standby!

Now it never syncs I have to change the input away from Humax and back on the TV for it to sync!!!

I've just received a new HDR-Fox T2. My Sony TV will not find any HDMI output from the Humax. HDMI from my PC works fine, tried changing cables, inputs, restarting everything.

Initially box was running 1.01.09 so I upgraded to 1.02.07 - same difference. Phoned Humax before doing the upgrade - they seemed surprised to hear there was a problem with HDMI but were SURE the 1.02.07 upgrade would fix it. Oh yeah!

One disappointed new owner.

As this thread shows, for many of us the HDMI problems only STARTED when the 1.02.07 upgrade came through - but Humax is still in denial.

Thanks djbh. It was Colin I spoke to initially and I have now emailed them.

The Freeview switchover here starts next month and I've been looking forward to some HD television. Can anyone tell me how badly HD will be compromised if it has to be delivered over SCART? I'm seriously considering whether I should keep the box as it is or send it back as faulty.

It starts at the END of next month, Stage 1 is 30 March. This removes BBC2 and replaces it with PSB1, which doesn't included HD. We won't get the HD mux until Stage 2 which is the middle of April.

Yep, I've got the schedule. I was trying to avoid the rush by getting in early with a Fox T2. Now I'm wondering how much benefit I'll see.

It's a moot point in my case. My existing box is a Pace Twin (actually I have 2) and they create unwatchable recordings after switchover. So I had to buy something new. The HDR Fox T2 seemed the best choice, and I still think so having had one for a couple of months.

I've now checked everything I can think of. The TV works with other HDMI inputs. The Humax works with other TVs. They don't work with each other. There is clearly an incompatibility between the two and Humax support don't sound at all optimistic about being able to do anything about it. Sony are unaware of any problems and there is no firmware upgrade for the TV.

So sadly, the box goes back tomorrow.

( I have heard that some Panasonics have the same problem but the Humax worked fine with my neighbour's Panasonic Viera.)

Sorry but this does not work for me. My TV is a Panasonic32lzd85.
I, too, have reported this to Colin at Humax.

I currently have a Humax PVR 9300T which I am really happy with and have had no problemes with it.

The region that I live in will be having it's DSO in July this year so I have been looking at Freeview+ HD PVR's.

I have read many reviews for the Humax HDR-Fox T2 on the Internet and in magazines and they are all very positive and and say that it is the best Freeview+ HD PVR with no problems at all and is a joy to use and the best on the market.

The Humax always gets very high scores in reviews.

But now people are saying that since the latest software update there is a problem with the HDMI.

The TV that I have is an Hitachi 42inch full HD 1080p LCD with built in Freeview.

The model is L42VP01U.

Please could someone tell me if I buy a Humax HDR-Fox T2 will it work as it should on my TV and not have this HDMI problem?

Also could someone please explain more about this HDMI problem that the Humax HDR-Fox T2 now has?

You are asking for users with a specific make and model of TV to respond which rather limits the likely number of responses. In my expereience the HDMI is slightly worse at 1.02.07 but all that means for us is that maybe once a day I have to put the TV into standby and out to get it to resync. Bear in mind that there are a significant number of people for whom HDMI works better with this release but by human nature you are much less likely to see them posting to forums. My advice is that you should buy one; it is a very competent box.

Thank you Martin Liddle for your very kind help.

I am very happy with my current Humax PVR 9300T which I feel is the best SD Freeview+ PVR.

I will probably buy the Humax HDR-Fox T2 as all the reviews that I have read say that it is the best and that it really is that good.

And when I was in town on my day off from work I went in to Hughes electrical to see what Freeview+ HD PVR's they had on display and the Humax looked the best. But I did not get to try the Humax out but I have seen screen shots on the Internet of the menus and EPG and they look very impressive and well thought out.

I also picked up the remote and that had a very good qulity feel to it and I thought it was well layed out.

I also lime the fact that Humax have done away with the flap that hides some of the key button on the PVR 9300T.

I will get the 1TB model as the cheapest that I have seen the 500GB model for is around 299.99 were as the 1TB model is about £40 more at 349.00 onthe Humax web site.

Once again thank you for your very kind help.

I am one of the users who reported a problem with HDMI and the FOX-T2 in this thread. I'm glad to say that this is now fully resolved - the problem was a configuration issue with the television and nothing to do with the Humax.

I must say that I am now very impressed with the box, though I cannot yet vouch for the HD performance as my area's switchover is in March/April. It is an altogether slicker, better designed, more competent piece of kit than my humble old 9200T. At the same time, migrating from a 9200T to a FOX-T2 is very straightforward as there is a distinct family resemblance in the way the UIs work.

What was the configuration issue? It may help some others resolve their HDMI issues.

May I too ask for the config details?
I have e-mailed Colin and his solution is for me to use the HDMI2 input. Well since then I've not had an HDMI failure when bringing the Humax out of standby whilst recording but Colin hasn't explained why this works and I am left without auto keying, as my Panasonic TV only has keying on HDMI1. Which raises another question: why do Panasonic do that?

I'm glad they do - when I had my WD TV connected to HDMI1 on my Panasonic the TV was always switching to that input at random moments, even though the WD TV is meant to switch off its HDMI output when in standby. I guess Panasonic feel that owners should have the option.

Strangely for me I've found the HDR is fine in HDMI1.

Essentially this was due to a series of mistakes by yours truly that are unlikely to be committed by anyone else! I posted details on Hummy.uk, so I'll just paste the explanation here:

Two and a half years ago, when I set up the Sony TV + Hummy 9200, I set the TV's HDMI inputs to Skip (under AV-setup), effectively rendering them invisible (I had no HDMI components at the time). I then forgot all about having done this.

When I got the Fox-T2 this week and tried to connect it, I could (of course) find no HDMI options in the Sources list to connect to. I went into Setup on the TV and concluded that the Hummy would need to be registered in the Control for HDMI screen before it would become selectable as a source. However, the TV would not register the Hummy - because it is not a compatible Sony component. I then embarked on a whole series of elimination tests trying to find a hardware issue instead of doing what I should have done in the first place, if only I'd remembered turning the HDMI source options to skip. When FifthHorseman suggested turning the Control for HDMI off, the light finally dawned. I re-enabled the HDMI options in the sources list and the rest is history.

I tend to look for over-complicated causes for simple problems.

I'm glad they do as well. I have my FOXSAT-HDR and HDR-FOX T2 connected to HDMI 2 & 3 because when they are connected to HDMI 1 and the device is in standby and a scheduled recording starts it switches the TV to HDMI 1 (very annoying).

To get back to the issue: why should we have to suffer with having to use a specific HDMI input, they should all work. After all, for most of us, before v1.02.07 we were able to use any of our HDMI inputs, and some of us preferred a keyed input.
The question still remains: what have Humax done to spoil this aspect and, more importantly, will they be doing anything about it?

Thank you for this. Why do we NEVER hear from Humax?
