Clearly in this case it's relevant. Often posters leave out specific models in postings if it's in the signature (that's what it's for). If you can't be bothered to read what's posted then don't make inane and inaccurate comments.

I got a reply from Humax asking for all the info about the T2's firmware version and so on. They asked me to swap round the two HDMI connnections on the TV (one for the Humax, one for a Sony BluRay player). Did so and was watching BBC1 HD last night when the black screen of death re-appeared. I think I'm going to send the Humax back and ask for a refund and try another HD recorder.

Just to update and apologise to Humax. After disconnecting everything from the TV, it was OK for a day or so and then started losing the picture again. This got worse and googling turned up some posts from other owners of the TV reporting the same problem. It was deemed to be incurable (unless you were an ace with a soldering iron which I'm not) and since the TV was five years old, we went and bought a replacement and all is now well and the Humax is performing brilliantly.

Can't praise Humax customer support enough. And thanks to everyone on here who chipped in as well.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but it looks like my new T2 is suffering from the same problem.

When it arrived from Amazon, connected it via the supplied HDMI lead to a spare input on the Yamaha RXV-667 amp and from there via HDMI to the TV - a Sony 37W5500

Tuned it in. All looked fine, so I flicked through some of the TV channels - BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4.... all good. As soon as I flicked on to Channel 5, the screen went blank, although the sound from Channel 5 was there. Using the remote to flick back to Channel 4 didn't restore the picture.

To get the picture back, I selected a different HDMI input on the Yamaha amp and then back to the Humax input again. Alternatively, switch the TV to an unused HDMI input and then back to HDMI1 (the amp connects to HDMI1 on the TV). This temporarily revivies the picture. This I think shows that the problem is in the communication between the Humax and the telly, not the Yamaha amp. Flicking between channels on the Humax again and before long the problem returned.

Then I tried connecting the Humax direct to the TV HDMI ports. Now after displaying the Humax splash screen on startup, the TV displays "unsupported signal. check your device output"

I started to Google the problem at which point I realised that I'm not the only one with this issue, and it's not even remotely new. Firmware is 1.02.20. The workarounds are a no-go for me, if I can't find a proper solution to this, it's going back to Amazon and the hunt for an alternative will start. After years of (relatively) happy use of a 9200T, I'm rather disappointed in this.

Really confused now. Will try a firmware update on the TV later today - currently 1.600EA, although I'm not convinced it will help.
