HTC Desire 2 on the way

Only basic information so far, but it looks like we're seeing the same pattern with HTC handsets again.

The front facing camera suggests they've finally realised that the UK market could also benefit from this.

Except we've had front-facing cameras in the UK for 8 years and they still haven't caught on.

I really wish HTC would sort out their naming conventions, it's getting as confusing as LG with all their Optimus phones or Samsung with their 27,000 Galaxy variants...

People use front facing cameras more than some would give credit for. And the iPhone appears to have also made people realise the potential a little more even if they did do the stupid thing of crapping it up by making it a WiFi feature rather than network.

Plenty of Android handsets are appearing with front facing cameras and HTC appear to have realised that this is a feature that has potential.

In the past people have had the option of over the network video calls but with mobile data so cheap and commonly used now you can use the front facing camera like a web cam over mobile data instead of racking up video call minutes. This is something getting more popular with things like Skype and instant messaging / chat apps. I think that mobiles with forward facing cameras may be more popular over the next year or two as we move towards more smartphone users.

I don't care what it's called if it's a decent enough handset.

That's because part of your job doesn't consist of trying to explain the differences in phones to people. Trying to explain how a Desire differs from a Desire HD, Desire 2, Desire HD 2, and a Desire Z gets tiresome. People didn't tend to get confused between the Hero and the Legend, for example, so there must be something in it.
