My experience is the direct opposite of the OP's.
My first cat was born in 1964 and he lived to be 20. We had two others around the same time who lived to be 16.
But of all the cats (several) I got 15 year ago, only one is still alive. All the others have died of various causes, CRF, cancer, traffic accident. The nearly-15 year old is on borrowed time too and the vet gives her till the end of the year. (They were all indoor/outdoor cats.) So no, I don't think they are living longer nowadays.
