I can't beleive it has been 40 years since the rock band Queen first got together

I just can't beleive they have been going for so long, reading the official website their are big things happenning this year to celebrate this milestone.

All their albums are being re-released as deluxe editions with bonus tracks.

There is a hollywood movie being made (starring borat) right now

There is also i hear a new album being worked on (perhaps some tracks may have Freddie on them?)

There is a sequel to their musical in the offing this year.

There is a gallery opening in London displaying lots of Queen related memorabilia called "stormtrooper in stilletos"

AND..... their are hints that Roger taylor and Brian may might be going on tour again!!!!

What are your thoughts, are they flogging a dead horse (sorry fred) with this, does anyone nowadays even register Queen as a legitimate, serious band?

Will anyone buy any of the stuff they are doing this your, What do you think?

I am a "lapsed" Queen fan. I was obsessed with them as a child but I've been enjoying discovering new music so much since my early teenage years that I barely listen to them anymore.

Even so, I'll go see them on tour if they do so, and I'll probably buy their non-1980s re-released albums. It is a big milestone though and I'm glad they are doing something for it, but even when I was a nipper I remember the fan club saying that the Queen Anthology was "coming soon", and still nothing, come on!

It sounds bad to say this, but i doubt we will get anthologies until all remaining members have passed.

Just realised, going by the threads in this section, a old, all male rock band is unlikely to get much replies amoungst all the cheryl/christina/madonna/gaga/britney threads.

I shall shuffle off with my thread to a more deserving audience.

I was thinking that myself when I replied on the Gary Moore thread, but each to their own I suppose.

I was lucky to see Queen in their prime, and although they were never my favourite band I had all their albums. For sheer showmanship Freddie blew everyone out of the water on stage.

never rated queen myself.... dunno why but they never quite hit it for me. as for queen still going.... sorry but imho freddie mercury was queen, so from my perspective they ceased to exist when freddie died.... although i dont like them, i cannot deny freddies personality, his stage presence and charisma, one of the greatest frontmen of all time.... the rest of the group are nothing special at all.

Queen - one of the greatest rock bands of all times. Broke all sorts of records for album sales and gigs and had (imho) the greatest front man and vocalist of all time. I look forward to whatever they decide to do with their legacy this year, be it a new album, tour, another musical etc. will be ok with me. After all, it's THEIR music, THEIR legacy and THEIRS to do with it what they want.

sorry but imho freddie mercury was queen,.
Of course he wasn't.
If only had freddie mercury and some other random other bandmembers, here are the hits you would lose...

Stone cold crazy
im in love with my car
radio gaga
a kind of magic
breakthu
heaven for everyone
innuendo
these are the days of our lives
you're my best friend
another one bites the dust
i want to break free
friends will be friends
Flash
Fat bottomed girls
One vision
hammer to fall
who wants to live forever
headlong
i want it all
keep yourself alive
now im here
save me
tie your mother down
the show must go on
we will rock you

All written by the other three, and thats only the ones i picked as they were hits, there are loads more!!!

Freddie mercury was a great frontman, but to say "he was Queen" is doing a massive dis-service to three outstanding songwriters IMO.

Gotta be one of the best pop-rock bands of all time

I guess they've come to be part of the furniture nowadays but every now and then you hear a bit of Queen and it pulls you up short and you think to yourself 'blimey, they did some fantastic tracks'!

Like you hear 'We Will Rock You' over the tannoy at a continental football match............

Or that ad with 'somebody to love'.........i like that version by the way ! (who sings it ?)

or 'the clip' from the Mike Myers film.........

Personally i reckon 'We Will Rock You' should be the National Anthem............let us sock it to the French for a change.............

It doesnt depend on anything, Freddie mercury was not Queen, as i have pointed out, probably 80 - 90 % of their hits were written by the other band members.

You can have a a valid opinion that Queen were rubbish, ect, thats fine as it is subjective, however you are wrong about Freddie being Queen, if you want to hear Freddie, listen to his solo albums, THAT is freddie mercury, not Queen.

I love their hits but i've never really listened to anything else other than GH and GH2. I'm not sure why to be honest, because GH2 is one of my favourite albums.

I'm considering buying their remasters this year actually
