BT puts pressure on people who take telephony from other companies
It seems to be the latest tactic that BT are using to try and discourage people using third party companies, I can't see any other reason as to why there is another 30p a month increase due on line rental, not so long after another rise of line rental.
BT state in their correspondence that they will be softening the blow by reducing prices elsewhere, but the price reductions only apply if you take out their Unlimited Anytime Plan or BT Vision. Now the usual caveats of it being a private company and they can do whatever they like apply. But it sticks in my throat that BT seem to be punishing anyone who either isn't taking their top packages due to income or anyone who wishes to exercise their capitalist right and go with another company (but have to keep their line rental with BT, ie. to use a discounter such as 18185 which many competitors disallow in their terms and conditions, but BT legally cannot). |

The VAT increase which is down to HMG not BT would take line rental to £13.57 ( £13.58 if you round up), so BT have added 2p a month over and above the VAT increase......as you point out you have a lot of choice, if you dont like BT use someone else, but not everyone has to allow 'access codes',CPS,override providers etc.., perhaps thats how they can appear to 'save' people a few pennys per month on what they charge for line rental, by making more money on the calls their customers make.
